Yeah, I bummed out over that yesterday. He was the best. I remember that show as much as kids remember Sesame Street; maybe even more fondly.

Here's a little "Send Your Pictures"....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqED0ume9F8

Where would I have every seen The Mighty Heroes if it wasn't for that man and his ark?

Never liked Primeau before or after the trade. Years on here of listening to people talk about retiring his number and what a great captain he was burns me. When he looks back on his career he should be embarrassed but I'm sure he's just patting himself on the back.
- mayorofangrytown

So basically, you're predisposed to not liking him?

Again, I ask, what about a guy who continually spoke out against the team and sat out an entire season? If that isn't putting yourself ahead of the team, then I don't know what is.

Basically, if you don't like Primeau's attitude, I find it hard to believe that you wouldn't hate Lindros.

You still have bands like Kiss to protect you from good music with their backwards Devil messages.

I know Flyers fans who never liked Primeau simply because the Flyers traded Rod Brind'Amour to get him.

It was only until I started posting/reading here did I learn of animosity because of what went down with Bill Barber.

I tried to explain that show to my kid yesterday and he just looked at me like "silly old man".

Both players made mistakes, neither should have gone public with their complaints, it should have been kept "in the room". However, in Lindros' defense, Clarke often spouted off about Lindros and his parents to the media, so you can really both fault sides in that dispute.

At the end of the day, I'm just glad that the Flyers and Lindros were able to bury the hatchet and move on. He's too important a part of the club's history to ignore. In Primeau's case, at least in my opinion, I give him a bit of leeway only because he was far from the only player that griped about Barber. He also, IMO, made up for it with his heroic playoff run in 2004 when he was already likely suffering from concussion issues and the work he has done since in working towards better care and understanding of concussion related issues.

Lindros too, deserves credit for his work in regards to combating concussion issues.

No. He earned my distaste.

I wanted the Flyers to take him in the draft so I followed him. IMO he's one of the biggest "All about me" guys I've ever seen in the league.

Same could be said for Lindros. I could sit here and trash him all day too but there's a healing process going on now from both sides so I'm currently of the mind to just let it go. I used to feel the same way about him too.

I doubt LeClair would have taken it.

Primeau was definitely the right choice at that time, even though there are folks (not me) that really hate Primeau.

- johndewar

See, John LeClair didn't strike me as the Captain type. He's quiet. Kind of one dimensional, especially around the time when the choice was being made. Recchi on the other hand was the most balanced player and probably the most experienced guy on the team. With this said, Primeau turned out to be great, I felt him being chosen had a lot to do with the prototypical Flyer thing, much like Lindros, Hatcher and Pronger.

Keep in mind, Primeau was traded from the Canes due to being a hold out.

The most disgusting part is Bob Clarke said they traded him for more "size" in Primeau

Bill, great post on Rico!

We were lucky to have him for as long as we did. The funny thing is, during those years with Desjardins and Lindros on the team, many fans knew that, while you could make due without Eric Lindros for stretches of time (as the team often had to do), losing Desjardins for any stretch of time was surely bad. Desjardins was definitely undervalued.

- johndewar

Same could be said for Kimmo. As much as losing G or Coots for a game really is a likely loss, losing Kimmo has been devastating.

Yeah, Clarkie was obsessed with size. I was stunned when the trade was made, Brindy was clearly the better player, especially offensively.

For sure, losing Pronger and a few years later, Kimmo, without any other top pair guys ready to step in, has really hamstrung this team. Hopefully some of the D prospects can develop into top pair guys over the next few years

Yeah, because the Chris Gratton thing went swimmingly.

Clarke was great at building a team up from scratch but not so good at acquiring the last couple pieces to push them over the top.

Which is why my top D in Flyers history that I can say I remember vividly are

Howe
Desjardins
Timonen
Pronger
McCrimmon
Wilson

I can't go back to the Bullies since I was young.

Honestly...I'm putting Gostisbehere on there before McCrimmon after one season.

Ghost might get there one day, but the Beast in his prime was a legit top pair all situations guy on a 2 time Cup finalist. Ghost isn't there yet.

In my opinion losing Timonen or Desjardins was tougher than losing a guy like Chris Pronger. Pronger wasn't here long, so the transition wasn't all the difficult. Remember getting Paul Coffey? Coffey I was capable of much more in his time here but dividing him wasn't a big deal because we never really had the full Coffey experience long term.

Maybe this is a bsd example. Hatcher I thought was important to our D and Kim Johansson if you are looking for better examples. It just always felt like Rico and Kimmo were the backbone of the D.

We don't know if Ghost will ever be that guy. Top pair, all situations Dmen do not grow on trees. Ghost has a chance to be a really good player but I really feel like one of Provorov or Sanheim have a chance to surpass Gostisbehere by being that all situations stable for the back end, including First unit PP.

Don't sweat it. I'm too young for that too. I didn't even see Howe play. My time started with the legion of doom.
