Definitly and other aspects of his play are still pretty raw but I'm stoked we ended up with him.
- belcherbd

There's some real potential with him, I wasn't aware he wasn't eligible for AHL, but a 2nd year in Jr wont hurt.

Be hard, not going to lose someone to waivers like last year, if they can go to the AHL they will.
- manvanfan

I'm sure we won't lose anyone important to waivers but lots of our guys are eligible.

To White Lie from previous blog

I'm not sure the point of your listed players and then mention Eichel and Gaudreau. Are you implying that NCAA isnt good? There are a long list of successful NHLers that played college and its only getting better

Vesey is a big story because he turned on his drafting team Nashville, like Schultz did to Anahiem, and has turned into a legit prospect. Guys like Geoffrion signed with his drafting team (oddly enough Nashville), or Miele was an undrafted free agent like Stecher was this offseason, so I dont understand the relationship of the list to the situation

- WhiteLie

The list are Hobey baker winners that basically amounted to nothing - all hype, no action. Eichel, Gaudreau being the exceptions. (the list goes back to 2007 so it shows its not just a small sample size) - simply showing the odds of becoming an NHLer, yet alone an effective one are quite low via the NCAA route.

This is what I was talking about earlier.....

Ice time is one of the biggest impacts on goal scoring, if Bo and Sven are getting 3rd line minutes they wont score 20 goals let alone 30.

- belcherbd

They will get less ice time, but they should get more offensive zone starts and more favourable match ups, if Willie is smarter with his deployment .
Sutter's line should handle the bulk of d-zone starts, so I think 20ish for Sven and 15+ for Bo are realistic.
30 is still a big stretch though.

Ya, the European thing is always complicated. I think if he hadn't been drafted this year, he could of been signed as a free agent and could of played there

Yeah that makes no sense at all

Edit: Portland is closer, easy to keep an eye on him.

I didn't know his dad is a head coach in the KHL.

Ahhh ok, I was having trouble drawing the link between the list and players. Makes more sense now.

That being said, I really dont put much stock in the Hobey Baker award, its a popularity contest (I've voted for a few friends of mine to get up the ballot) and considers other criteria outside of actual hockey abilities

There are four criteria against which nominees for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award are considered:

Strength of character, on and off the ice
Contribution to the integrity of the team and outstanding skills in all phases of the game
Scholastic achievement and sportsmanship
Compliance with all NCAA rules, including being a full-time student in an accredited college or university and completing 50 percent or more of the season

And I would disagree with the NCAA players making it to the NHL being low, there have been plenty and more are coming each year. The latest being Killorn, Krug, Parise, Vanek, Nyqvist Kessel, Toews, Oshie to name a few. http://www.ncaa.com/news/...d-coaches-got-their-start

Fairly accurate imo, I think if Loui stays healthy he can hit 30 again or more but I really doubt Sutter can score . I think that was a terrible trade and a huge overpayment on his contract. He is not a top six ever in the NHL.
- joegreif17

The sutter comments are bang on. He has never been a top 6 forward and only once got 20 goals. Id say 10-15 is more accurate.

When everyone was healthy in 2014, the Canucks scored 242 goals. Last season when everyone was hurt the team scored 191. I'm too laze to break down how the Canucks 214 goals were distributed - but I think its fair to say that with reasonable health, the Canucks should score between 191 and 242 goals. I don't think that Jeff's Patterson's numbers are too far off, and I reckon they are more on the conservative side. I don't think its out of reach to think that Daniel, Erickson, Sven, and Bo can get 20+ goals. Sutter, Hanson, Virtanan, Henrik, Rodin get 10+ goals. If Bo and Sven don't have to face the other team's top line, I would not be surprised if even one of them potted 30. I think the bigger question is how many goals can the Canucks get out of the d?
- Rocket_Launcher

I think Rodin will surprise. I expect him to be in the 20 goal range as long as his injury doesnt hold him back to start the year.

I just really hope they make a shut down line where sutter is playing against the teams top lines with maybe hansen and burrows. This would then leave Bo and co. to focus on goal scoring and help him develop that part of his game which is waht a 20 year old kid should be doing.

You are probably right. But if there is one thing we know about WD is that his preferable brand of hockey is running 4 lines. This actually worked beautifully in 2014 and it saved a lot of wear and tear on the Sedins, who finished in top 15 in scoring after the disastrous Torteralla year. If Sutter can center an effective line that plays great defense and can pot a goal here and there. Well, that would be a catalyst for a really good regular season and playoff spot run.

Without a summer of hard training, could take time. Hope they don't give up on him or he accepts time in the AHL. Conditioning stint.

My flaggings arent accidental. I can handle fishing talk, recipies, beer/wine, travelling, Olympics, and a few other non-hockey topics while ignoring a whole wack of other things but this nonsense from all involved is pettier than high school girls and are personal discussions overtaking a public forum

no problem. i took a break for a few hours and came back out of boredom. believe me. i wasn't going to post anything related to these two guys until I saw that line from mawood...

in any case i'll commit to a no first strike kind of rule, however, i reserve the right to respond to any attack.

now if anyone would like to nominate themselves to officiate the detente, please step forward. a neutral party with no animus towards myself or those two individuals.

Not sure about either of those things. They still lack much of any offensive talent and for the third straight year have lost their most effective goalie.

If Virtanen and Gaunce end up back there, they will look a lot better. Same for Biega and Pedan.

I think there might be some interest with the names I bolded, the only ones I think I'd miss might be Pedan, Larsen or Rodin.

As we finished near the bottom of the standings last season, I can't see how players that didn't make our club this season would be a lot better than what another club has. with the exception of a couple dmen that might just need the right opportunity to shine and a winger from europe that had a great season but like the other two, still haven't established themselves as nhl players.

I wish we saw more of Grenier last season.

I don't know the background or history but I think this is a bad idea. No one wants to be a mediator or a referee. Just let it go. Marwood and ASL I am sure will gladly do the same. PM's are best.

they've had plenty of opportunity over the years, but insist on continuing to be richard like about it... but hey, i said i'm game if you can make it happen with those two... if not then this board will semi-regularly turn into a shiite show...

I think I would be more disappointed losing Zalewski over Grenier at this point. Either one I would be stoked to have as our 13th forward, assuming of course that they outplay the waiver eligible guys.

I'm excited for Rodin and pulling for him to bounce back but if he is healthy and can't win a spot, I'm not going to worry about losing him on waivers.

The little female genitalia had me banned for awarding him The Whiniest B*tch of HB.
Perhaps you can get him to admit that he was wrong on blaming me for his previous ban when RealityChecker has told him twice that he reported him. He has ignored those posts and the one were I asked him if it was hard to admit he was wrong.
Please don't give him the satisfaction that I'm on a 24 hour time out. Cheers & keep up the good work.
