Beaulieu-Weber pairing would work nicely, as long as stupid Therrien trusts him on the first pairing. He seems to only trust defensemen that are north of 30. Either Beaulieu or a trade for somebody like Fowler, anyone but Markov. |

The number of microphones in front of Patches for a charity golf tournament is kind of ridiculous .Man those journalists can't wait for the season to start so they have something to talk about. |

If there's one thing Markov can still do very well... it's set up a one timer for his partner on the blueline.
Weber will score plenty with Markov next to him. |

The problem is, if Beaulieu cannot make the jump to top pairing, then this team is in a lot of trouble. Either Markov then need to play 25+ mins a game again (Yikes!) or they need to go out and get a top pair D-man.
I still have lots of concerns about this d-corps being able to move the puck up the ice consistently, and create quick break out opportunities. |

Yup, Sergachev could maybe do the job in a few years but right now they're kind of lacking a good puck moving D. |

I think Beaulieu will be fine.
Sure he has not been as consistent as we would like him to be but he's improved every year.
I'm confident he can do the job next to Weber (who will help him greatly btw).
Sergachev will be with the Habs in 1-2 years and will be amazing. |

Yes, I agree 100%... anybody think Sergachev will be able to step in this season?
Beaulieu's really the only option up there unless Serg is the next Ekblad... if N8 gets injured we're f'd without another top D |

Pacioretty asked if he ever thought about giving Weber the "C": "No." #Habs
Don't know who asked that, but that's kinda of a Richard move |

Well, between the Impact having a tie game fest and the Alouettes sucking...not much going on in this city sports wise. |

Agreed.
I'm glad he didn't take the time to elaborate as to why. Dumb question. |

With MT as the coach I really don't think so. Plus his junior team is hosting the Memorial cup this year so he'll likely see a lot of hockey in the juniors which could be good for him. |

yea, you're probably right... with this "win now" mentality, looks like MB needs to pick up another top 4 Dman. Lindholm would be nice |

I don't think he does it with Sergachev coming as soon as next year, unless it's a discount deal. When markov is out and he s in Sergachev weber and Beaulieu Petry is a fine top 4 imo. |

that's assuming alot for serg, even if he is a highly touted prospect... to step into a top pair that young? i hope that works out but it's alot of pressure, especially as weber continues to decline... |

It is alot of pressure, but I can't think of anyone better to mentor him then Weber. The alternative of trading for a top four is going to cost a leg and an arm. |

Yup, we'd all love yo get Fowler/Shattenkirk without giving away key pieces (Gallagher, Sergachev, Galchenyuk...etc) but I highly doubt it's possible. |

I guess, but if we want to "win now", i say go all in for a guy like Lindholm (who's still only 22)... i'd do something like Sherbak, DD and 2017 1st for him... not sure if the quality would be high enough to grab him, but ANA does have a bit of a logjam going on at D right now.
in terms of mentorship, think Markov will be sticking for another year or so? don't think he'd be happy in a bottom pairing role, but i do think he'd be a better mentor for the young russian compared to weber (not to say w would be bad). perhaps the general will be sticking around the organization post-retirement? |

so, sherbak and dd + 2017 1st defo not enough for you
probably right, after what larsson went for |
