Your main water line out of the house is probably blocked. Tree roots I would guess.

This happened to me when I first moved into my house. Had to have the front yard dug up to replace the old pipe with the new PVC pipes.

If it were the line out that was damaged, would my water in my kitchen and the rest of the house be safe to wash dishes, brush teeth, shower, etc? I'll have to call the landlord tomorrow, but I'm most worried about the water being safe for now.

It sounds like its the line out that's plugged so you should be good.

As long as your water is clear I wouldn't worry

I did not notice any dirt or discoloring in the water, so I still showered and brushed my teeth with it.

I figured it had to be blocked for a while and the only place where it was backing up was the standing tub in the basement like you.

Edit: Also the main water pipe leading out in the basement was backed up as well. So as Stripes said, it was only the pipe going out that was the problem.

My first thought is maybe there's a break in the pipes, would that mean all of my water is contaminated? Or just the basement?
- chilliard77

Sounds like a collapsed pipe.

Give it a sniff. Pour it into a glass. If it doesn't smell and it's clear it's probably fine. When we had the sewer problem it didn't affect the water in any way. The clay sewer pipe collapsed. That was it.

I forgot, does your toilet flush?

Chargers drafted him this year but he's holding out and according to his mother, they should have pulled a " Eli Manning ".

Thanks mhp, I'm confident it'll get sorted out. Was definitely a little shocking at first, but a little dirt and some earthworms never hurt. Lol

I would flush as sparsely as possible. If it's yellow let it mellow, if it's brown flush it down. If it is collapsed or blocked it could backup on you. So far it's just in the basement and that's good. Just try and use the water the least amount possible until it gets looked at or fixed. If you don't have to wash your dishes, don't.

Don't know if he wants out but his mom is making look more like a fool. He said if the Ravens drafted him he would not sign with them because he went to Ohio State.
