Canada pumping the US in volleyball this afternoon was must watch tv.

Had no idea I could get so into a sport I have literally never watched in my life.

- SameOld

Now that must have been an upset.

Women's beach volleyball is apparently popular viewing as well.

I watched as well and the only time I watch volleyball is in the Olympics.

Canada was an underdog, but definitely came in with a chance. They are ranked 12th in the world and the US is ranked 5th. They are calling their group the 'group of death'. Canada will still need to beat Mexico and maybe even win on more match just to move to the next round.

Hey guys am i the only one that wouldn't mind fielding a more veteran team for this upcoming year, as it stands right now were in a good position in terms of our cap situation and with our plethora of young talent, but i dont like the idea of buying out Lupul or any other player i would much rather preach patience and improve the value of guys like Lupul, Greening, Polak, Laich, Holland, Leivo and Michalek. Its my believe that you can never overdevelop your young players, it just allows them to be more prepared, so i like the idea of most of our kids going back to either there CHL teams or our AHL affiliate then once we trade off some of our veterans at the deadline then we can add them where we see fit:

JVR- Kadri- Komarov

Michalek-Bozak-Lupul

Greening- Matthews- Nylander

Martin-Holland-Laich

*Leivo

Rielly-Hunwick

Gardiner-Zaitsev

Polak-Marcincin

*Corrado

Anderson- Enroth (?)

I know it may not be the flashy team we want but i like the idea of making Carrick, Brown, Soshnikov, and Hyman play a lot of meaningful minutes against men in the AHL so that once we trade off our veterans then the rookies can smoothly come in with no expectations and play full-time come the 2017-2018 season.

I'm actually ok with this set up. Baring a guy coming in and TAKING a meaningful role (meaning Marner earning a first or second line role NOT fourth line minutes, etc) then I would prefer we run with the veterans. They will be moved throughout the year anyway so guys like Brown, Hyman, & Soshnikov will still get 25-60 games this year.

Win-win.

I say that about volleyball during every olympics.

It is pretty damn exciting sport to watch. Yes, watching Canada blank the U.S. was fun... especially with my now-U.S.-Citizens family up visiting me

Similar things could be said about Canada's gold position and Kosovo's

And if you don't like that one, I could point out total medal positions between Canada and countries with lower populations Hungary, Australia, and Chinese Taipei

Really not about population, more about investment of time, money and in some cases high quality cheating. As an example Ben Johnson was a terrible cheater, Carl Lewis and his falsetto voice was an excellent cheater. Much to my disappointment Lance Armstrong - was also an excellent cheater for many years.

Yup.

Mrs. Lums is a big volleyball fan, so we'd go and watch them live whenever the team came through town. Needless to say, she was quite happy yesterday

I was relying on the same argument as the resident Dr.

Oh Jesus, leave the cheating out of this. These guys go through the most rigorous drug testing. Lance Armstrong is a douche for what he did and so is anyone else that cheats regardless of country of origin.

Chances of Vesey ever becoming much is pretty slim but might as sign him doesn't hurt anything. It would be great to see other teams fans reactions to go along with Leaf fans talking about Vesey being the next great thing....
