The SC finals last year was Matt Murray vs Martin Jones - rangerdanger94
Jones is really good, Murray outplayed Hank and holby (and fleury)and the pens did not exactly have a top d last season. Both are stars in the making |

Eh idk. I watched a good amount of NYR games but not as much as you guys so youd know better than i would, but i never thought he was THAT bad on the dside. He also did get nearly 50 pts and was real good when McD was out. 50 pts isnt very easy to replace.
I do think your forward core got deeper and your PK should be way better. Nash will have a bounce back year. IDK about buch, he looks real small and unable to handle the grind, but well see. The D is a major ? tho. will girardi and stall bounce back, or was last year more of the norm. I like McI and relaly like skjei, but relying on them very heavily early on could be problematic - TwoPumpChump91
I think Yandle was getting worse and worse defensively as his time in NY went along. When he came over, he was actually rock solid. Impressed the hell out of me in his own zone.
But as he got more comfortable in NY and started playing his high risk high reward game, he became more and more of a ticking time bomb. The end of last season he was brutal. |

You may not need an elite goalie to win the Cup. But you do need elite players and Lundqvist still falls into that category. Making the most of the prime years of your elite players just makes sense. Since after he's done, how many elite players will the Rangers have?
Penguins won with elite forwards and good enough D and goaltending. That doesn't mean a team with fewer elite forwards won't need to compensate somewhere in order to win. If the Rangers plan on stepping back for a bit and using up the best years of their best players....they may be stepping back for a lot longer than that. - FlareKnight
I agree. which is why I want them to go for Shatty. once Hank retires we can go into rebuild mode. the rangers seem to be good at getting talent from the later rounds which means they should be rather competive for the near future. I am all for getting shatty as long as it means we are not trading skjei or Buch. a 1st? why not, I cant remember the last time we had one. haha |

Yea. Are we favorites? Nope. But we can make some noise. - rangerdanger94
I agree. I actually like that though. im always afraid of the teams that coast through the reg season and aren't really tested. this team will be tested this year. hopefully they pass the test. if the team plays to its potential, we have as good a shot as anyone else. |

The thing is that it probably would take Buchnevich or Skjei.
St. Louis wants to win the Cup so they aren't going to trade one of their impact core players who plays in every situation and 20+ minutes a night for a first round pick. They're going to only trade him for an asset that can be impact player right away from them. |

if the Rangers are indeed in the market for a top pairing right handed defenseman, and are willing to trade package to get one, why does it HAVE to be Shattenkirk?
I think people exaggerate this "he loves the Rangers" thing
it doesn't matter |

If you're Gorton and Montreal calls you up and offers you Subban for McDonagh straight up, would you do it? |

Makes no sense for Rangers to trade away young prospects for Shattenkirk. First of all, were in no position cap wise to give up guys on elc's for a guy that will put us over. Unless Nash is part of deal it's not happening. Already crowded blue line. Need to let McIlwrath play this year, and decide as season goes on if he's in future plans. Girardi has modified ntc after next season and Staal I think another year after that. Need to move one of them. I think roster is set, with the possibility of adding Vesey on an entry level deal. Don't see any young guys getting dealt unless it's part of deal to get rid of expensive older players. Maybe Klein? Let's see how season goes. St. Louis will get to point of having to deal Shatty or get nothing. Makes sense for Rangers to hold off. |
