Logic dictates that Murray is the guy that Pittsburgh will lose. Unless he absolutely falls on his face this season the Pens will do everything they can to make sure he is not exposed.

MAF has a twelve team no trade clause in his contract. That still exposes him to over half of the league. We can assume Calgary is on the twelve team list. Fleury will be traded long before Murray is in any danger of being lost to expansion. I also think the Pens will do everything they can to send Fleury to a team of his choosing.

Seems like, if any team was wanting a goalie on the wrong side of thirty, who was starter for a single Cup win years ago, with regular season numbers around 2.5 GAA .915 Sv%, playoff numbers around 2.7GAA .905 Sv%; Dallas would have already given them Niemi for free. And Niemi will continue to be a cheap option with a lower cap hit than MAF and no requirement of a protection slot. Plus, no one wants to help the Cup champs out of an obvious bind. Just ask Chicago how hard it was to find a trade to dump Sharp.

If Pittsburgh manages to keep Murray, it seems a lot more likely it will be by them trading a second rounder or something to Vegas in exchange for Vegas not taking him, or by buying MAF out. Seems like either would be cheaper than paying someone to take MAF off their hands.

obviously you don't watch penguins play. otherwise you would know that the fleury the last 2 years is nowhere near as bad as the fleury from 2003 to 2013. fleury is much better now than back then. just sayin

Another interesting factor is when Las Vegas will be able to start trading with other teams?

If they are able to start trading with other NHL teams before the Expansion draft they could as an example trade their second year first round pick for "PLAYER X" allowing the team "PLAYER X" came from to protect another player instead...

Another issue is whether Las Vegas can sign any UFA's before the expansion draft. ***NOT PENDING UFA's***

Example: PLAYER Z last played in the NHL in 2015 but, did NOT sign a NHL contract in 2016 season remaining a free agent all year long... could he sign before expansion draft giving Las Vegas an asset to trade or use as leverage?
