Unless there is tight competition at his position for one spot between like 3 guys and they want to try to give those three a fair chance. - dragonoffrost
Distinct possibilities but remember guys like tkachuck are not playing cause of injury but will be 110% locks on the final roster unless in the nhl. So there was already room for a few fringe players to get further evaluation. To send max jones home when I would argue based purely on stat sheets and line mates that he was not a game changer or clearly above the rest I'd say it's good news for us. That being said this doesn't guarenteed our guy a spot or accurately predict nhl careers. But hey here's to being hopeful. |

Fantastic read, Bill.
It's amazing how the Mickey family view his brief time as a Flyer, especially since it really came before the Cup teams and sustained period of excellence that followed. It's awesome how Cory reached out to you afterwards and it's great that he is working to instill the lessons his dad taught him in a new generation of players.
Really enjoyed this story. All the best to Cory and his family. |

@max Jones comments
There are guys who stayed who are locks to make the team like Logan brown. And most the guys who were sent home were not expected to make the team with minor exceptions like max Jones. Yes it's possible they already made their mind up on him but it seems to be they are starting to try and mesh their team together and he may not be on it - Tfaehner
has he played badly? I haven't see one second of any of the games so I have no clue |

Based purely on box scores stat sheets and line mates. Doesn't seem like coaching has been high on him |

Some scouts questioned his innate hockey sense prior to the draft. Wonder if that's what is holding him back.

The coach seems to favor 200 foot players. If I'm not mistaken his defensive game was also a liability in scout analysis ? |

Not really -- he's not some 2-way wizard, but I never watched him and thought he wasn't, at the least, respectable defensively. Hard worker; great skater; good PK'er too. |

Yeah, the biggest complaint I heard from scouts was "hockey sense", no one questioned his work ethic or general skating or skills in any of the scouting reports I saw.

I'm out of excuses for why he's sent home maybe he's just a dud. Good luck in Anaheim bud. |

$130 for slow stopping a badly misplaced stop sign.

markov will always be a hero to me for putting the dagger in NJ in 2004. that goal came off a full on russian play up the ice from malakhov to zhamnov to markov.
not to mention when he kissed primeau on the cheek after he tied it against tampa in game 6 of the same run. the emotion in his eyes - the smile - the hug. gets me every time i see it.
i was sad to see him not return.

EDIT: I actually know how to think about this: Pittsburgh trash opening up on the Philly side. Fries go on the side of your sandwich, losers. Oh, and you don't make a reuben with coleslaw, you make it with sauerkraut. Jesus. Pittsburgh can't even do food right. |

“The time between when I quit hockey and I die,” he says, looking at the gap between his hands, which is now only a couple inches wide, “I want it to be the shortest.”
-Jaromir Jagr
Just ran across this. I thought it was really well written. Yes. It's from last season.
