depends if a bidding war develops.
I really can't believe they couldnt trade him for a mid round pick or something
knowing them, they probably want the buyout cap hit to help them get to cap floor |

It's necessary but just like faceoffs it doesn't generate possession anywhere near as much as you think it does. |

You probably weren't here in April but it was great in our series w Pittsburgh when one of their posters said "Hitting isn't important". It was after the 1 game we won & out hit Pitt a ton. - B2B76

The Rangers outhit the Penguins every game in the series, and lost the series in 5 games. Soooo... care to elaborate on why hitting is important? |

I'm gonna say once again & I gotta bounce anyway. Can't believe I even would have to debate this with a hockey fan, it's like describing the game for the first time w your 6 yr old. Hitting wears the opponent down, it can literally hurt the opposition, for sure can send an intimidation into your opponent.
If it didn't matter why the (frank) would teams do it? |

Not to mention that "soft" team went on to dispatch the hard hitting Caps, and went on to be the SCC even though I'm pretty sure we got outhit by the Lightning and the Sharks as well.
Ability to keep up with physical hockey is very important. Ability to actually reciprocate hits is not. |

It really helped the Rangers when they outhit the Pens in 5 games, but lost the series 4-1. Really wore down the opposition. Struck fear and intimidation, so much they the Pens wanted to hurry up and end the series in 5 games, so they didn't get intimidated by game 7. |

There's teams you can beat into submission. There's teams that you cannot. The teams that you can beat into submission are usually not good teams to begin with. The Pens this year proved that you don't have to be a physical team to be the best team. Therefore, hitting isn't essential for a team's success, it's just a tool in the arsenal. Judging a team by their physicality, ability to hit, and grittiness is going to be proven to be an archaic measure in the near future when teams catch on to the fact that there's nothing that can truly trump fast, skilled, disciplined hockey. |

I think physicality can be effective, but it has to be applied correctly. I wasn't sad to see Matt Martin go because nearly all of his hits were the result of him finishing a check 20ft behind the play. It was cool to watch and all but I never thought it was a particularly valuable "skill". |

Sounds a lot like Ryan Callahan's time in Tampa. |
