I think the right play for the jays is to trade away Bautista for a pile and let Upton take his spot in the field moving forward. It is not likely we are going to sign both Bautista and Encarnacion moving forward so a decision has to made about which one you want going forward, I would prefer Edwin so trade Jose and get as big of a haul as you can.

Re-Sign Saunders and go with Saunders, Pillar and Upton in the outfield plus whatever haul we can get from Jose, maybe some prospects to put in the cupboard and maybe some pitching to help right now.

Except he has 10/5 rights and can veto any move he wants. If jose wants out he wI'll be traded. If not, jays are stuck with him and he walks and the jays get a pick

Baseball and hockey are too different to compare. He fact that there is no salary cap means you can trade all the prospects you want, so long as you are willing to open the wallet to sign UFA.

Less teams make the playoffs. He reality is if you have a chance in baseball you take it, because next season you may not even be in the playoff picture.

The draft is completely different. Besides the fact you can't trade your picks. You also have to worry about signing your picks. There are plenty of good prospects that refuse to sign contracts and go back into the draft next season. You could get a very good prospect late in the first round simply because other teams know they are unwilling to pay the price.

As long as Rogers is willing to pay and increase payroll, the jays could trade all the prospects they want and still reload everybcouole of years.

Lost in the last HOCKEY thread, so bringing it to this BASEBALL thread???

Today @ 1:58 PM ET
Martin isnt coming here to protect Holland and Greening.
- poohcrumbs

I see Martin playing up a line. Keep hearing he has more potential than just a 4th liner. And not sure who mentioned a knock on his skating in the last thread but from what I've seen it's fine...really good in fact. He isn't #1 in hits because he's slow.

JVR, Bozak, Brown
Komarov, Kadri, Marner
Martin, Matthews, Nylander
Greening, Laich, Michalek

- underhill14

I like these lines and think they're the most realistic.I worry a little(not much)about Martin maybe slowing down Matthews and Nylander but at the same time I like him near them and Marner. He could easily jump on the ice a little early and I know all wont agree.

JVR Kadri brown
Lupul Bozak Marner
Komarov Matthews nylander
Greening/holland/michalek Laich Martin

If something happens to one of the young guns Komarov puts the guy in a headlock and Martin lines up against him next shift. Martin would be a boat anchor on a line with those guys.

Edit I'd rather see nylander on the top line and brown or Marner with Matthews but babs said willy would be with him.

It's weird, in everything I have heard about Martin and watched nothing has ever suggested he's slow.

The first time I'm hearing anything about that is just the past 2 days on HB.

We'll see soon enough but we agree with the idea of him on the 3rd line, at least for the first 30 games.

I like that line up too but see post above about Martin's speed.

As for Nylander up and Marner down.....agree with that too. But Babs says otherwise.

I would much rather Matthews, Marner for a line, get them working together immediately. Matthews reminds me of a better Dvorak so to recreate most of that London line seems like a good idea.

Leivo, Matthews, Marner could be a nice line.

Nylander will ultimately center his own line.

What I heard is that he's actually faster than average. A lot of grinder/hitters are fast but don't have the puck skills, playmaking and sniping that the top 6 guys have.

Babcock said that Nylander would be with Matthews to start training camp. After that anything can happen.

Boat anchor was probably the wrong term. I wasn't talking about his speed I know he can skate thats what makes him effective on a checking line I was talking more so his impact on their production. Guys got hands of stone and zero play making ability. I think Komarov is a better fit. He'll get in grind and dig pucks out and can cycle and bury a few when he's set up.

Is LL now looking elsewhere cause his business was leak?

LL isn't going to not pursue a player he wanted because his interest was leaked ahead of time. Also, it was leaked by who? Enroth's agent? Sounds like Enroth was begging for the job instead of the Leafs calling on Enroth.

I wouldn't worry about who the backup will be. Leafs aren't winning anything this year anyways. Except maybe the draft lottery after finishing somewhere in the 22nd-28th place in the standings.

I think only 2 out of these 4 players will be on the starting lineup:
Laich
Greening
Holland
Michalek

Marner and Hyman will fill those two spots.

Got you.

I haven't seen him play much at all but we will soon.

I guess I think of him as a tougher Komarov with some skill, not a Colton Orr.

The 4th line for the Islanders was pretty effective with hits and points.

I know but you must BELEAFS. They make the playoff and and boom they can be playing in the SCF. Oilers did it. The season hasn't been played out and you're writing them off. At least wait till December before doing that.
