While I do agree about the classlessness, a legal body check would also get you assault charges on the street.
Edit: A 4-minute high sticking double minor could probably get you years of jail time on the street. - jmatchett383
No, it wouldn't. In hockey there is a reasonable expectation you will be hit legally as part of the sporting event in question.
What Domi did was throw an elbow at a unsuspecting player illegally and well away from any play. There was no reasonable expectation of contact.
As to your second point, yes it would if it were on purpose such as what McSorely did to Brashear. But in the flow of a game such as when it is accidental, (which it is most of the time) again it falls under the reasonable expectation of physical contact playing a contact sport engenders.

So if you were walking down the street, and I came towards you at a high rate of speed and forcefully took you off your feet by putting a shoulder into your chest, any nearby cop wouldn't bat an eye? I'm pretty sure that's the definition of "assault."
It's the same with football. If you "legally" tackled someone who was going for a stroll, you will get locked up. What happens in the game and what happens "on the street" are two different sets of rules.
Edit: Yes, within the confines of the arena during play, these things fall under an umbrella of rules and repercussions. But if you went down the street and swung your stick up and cut somebody's lip with it, your ass is getting taken to jail, not sitting in a box for 4 minutes.
Anyone know whatever happened between that former Flyers player who brought a defamation lawsuit against a former referee? I can't find any updates on it.

Lindros filed a suit against Paul Stewart. Haven't seen any updates since the filing of the suit.

"Sandy McCarthy - loved him as a Flyer " - scoob
i met him not long after as a member of the rangers, AT A FUNDRAISER for ice hockey in harlem (a snider hockey pre-cursor), paid him a compliment, and he was a complete (frank)ing bumhole.

When Domi went after Burt and was sucker punching him, I was so angry I threw my remote across the room in to a mirror, shattering both the mirror and the remote. To this day I still hate his guts. That hatred has been transferred over to his stinkin' son.

Do you remember the exchange? - jmatchett383
i do. and what he said in and of itself wasn't so terrible, but it was how he said it, his demeanor. just a bizarre thing. i wouldn't have minded so much if it was an exchange that was on the street let's say, but this was a fundraiser being hosted by his employer to raise money for this program. the behavior was unbecoming of the context. even stranger because i complimented him. brief. didn't ask for a picture or an autograph or any of that.
Hilarious that POS Scott Stevens is going bezerk. Pot meet kettle.

Gee, who is that Maple Leaf executive clapping at the end? Could that be Ken Dryden? Good thing his saintly Canadiens saved hockey from such goonery.
Dryden had that narrative on the Flyers in "The Game". Other than the Schultz/Rolfe fight, I wonder how many fights occurred during those three play-off runs? I don't really recall too many others (of course, it has been 40 years and I was only 10-12 years old).
What's he doing commenting on US politics, anyway? It is none of his business.
