Has the guy who broke the Enroth rumor in Sweden been assassinated yet?

- TheMussel

No. He hasn't been seen by anyone since the story broke, but that doesn't mean anything. He probably just got fed up with society and went all Alexander Supertramp.

Would you let this guy talk you into a 7 year contract?

The Leafs took the time to meet with him and make their pitch.

Stamkos took the time to sit with MLSEL brass and hear the pitch.

So there was interest on both sides.

In the end, not enough on his part.

- Atomic Wedgie

The Leafs did everything that was required to show interest in him publicly, but we don't know what was said to him privately. Many people believe they were willing to open up the vault for him, but I have serious doubts about that, given what we know about our current management group.

If they were willing to offer him 10 per as some suggest, they're in the wrong line of business, given the nature of the salary cap, and it's effect on player valuation.

Why the hell did you break into the lobby of my building earlier!

Caused a whole damn fiasco trying to get you out of there

(in case you didn't pick up what I'm putting down, there was a seagull trapped in our lobby today)

That's a cheap. Even if it is a bridge contract.

I assume he'll still be an RFA when that is up?

Lets say in the good 'ol days before ELCs, an 18 year old Gordie Howe signed an 8 year deal for below market value. Would it be considered a bridge contract?

Yeah, he's 22 so he has 4 years to go before he can be an UFA.

I doubt the Leafs had any serious interest in Stamkos, given the price point that would be required to sign him. This is a cap league, so signing any overpriced free agent would work counter to a teams ability to become, and remain, competitive in the long run.

Stamkos did do the Leafs a favor when he re signed in Tampa, and hopefully Tavares will sign early in New York, that way Shanahan and company won't waste valuable time pretending like they're interested just to coddle impatient fans.

I disagree there. Chicago signed two of those contracts and it didn't hurt them. Same with Pittsburgh. While the contract can be a huge hurdle if it doesn't work, if you manage the team properly and the contract doesn't drop in value then having a mega contract or two won't destroy you.

He was referring to the massive contracts handed out to Crosby, Malkin, Toews, and Kane. Contracts that were supposed to ruin the team's ability to compete.

He was referring to Stamkos. Unless you think he is an overpriced FA in which case give your head a shake.
