Murray spent a third to try to get him signed before he turned FA. That doesn't look like it will happen so the pick was given up for next to nothing. Maybe worth the chance but it seemed odd given everything that Vesy had done for the chance to hit Free agency.

That pick we lost could still be worth it . Without his rights, we might not of had a chance to showcase the team and convince him to sign with the Sabres. At least now we were in the mix.
Vesey's camp has made it abundantly clear that they intend to hit free agency (which is less than 3 weeks always) and yet Murray tosses a 3rd away on a prayer, some could argue negligence.
More than half the league will be after Vesey and he's pretty much going to write his own ticket. By no means am I saying that Vesey will be a Leaf, but there will be PLENTY of options/destinations more attractive than Buffalo. Sorry.

do y'all have any idea how many prospects the sabres have in their system right now...do y'all realize that they drafted another 10 players at the draft this year?

I hear ya, aussie, but there are people out there, no matter what business they're in or what pay-grade they enjoy, who's only responsibility is to themselves...in the end it helps neither the employer nor the employee...problem is, people don't change because of outside influences...it comes from within, usually after some form of tragedy affects them deeply - Michael Pachla
That's a little extreme. Some need to grow up, some need a little persuasive guidance & some as you say may suffer some type of tragedy that may or may not be caused by their actions. If his pay was cut & his ability to earn reduced dramatically with further reductions possible depending on his behaviour, you may find an improvement in his off ice public image.

Murray isn't the smartest GM when it comes to managing assets. But this team has talent. And I'd trade a 3rd to talk to Vesey 100 times over
I remember being really excited when we made the trade for Kane. Now I'm just hoping there's a way we can get him out of here. Whether or not these accusations are true, I'm sick of hearing about him in the news. I'm fine with players having off-ice issues but him putting his hands on those girls (again, if true) goes way over the top.

probably only temporary improvement...people are people...saul to paul doesn't happen without a profound outside influence and from what I've seen, it's usually something that comes from loss and hits real deep

Small price to pay to try & get him signed. Wasn't there also a possibility of a tampering charge so it was thought Murray paid the price so he wouldn't be persued ala Benning??

I haven't heard anything about that although i'm not saying it wasn't out there...we know Vesey works out with Eichel and has been doing so for the last few years...that's all I've got

He did claim that and was the reason for not signing with Nashville. Most likely just sticking to his word and waiting till FA . But we are still the first team to talk with him.
Trade him to Vancouver, get what you can for him and let daddy handle his off ice behaviour. It's won't be the first time daddy had to get involved, Buffalo will rid of a problem child and move forward from there. Some times you have to take your medicine.
