ok on smaller trades

lost the kane trade
may lose the fasching/mcnabb trade
signed moulson to a bad deal
doesn't look like vesey is going to sign
bad choice for back up goalie
probably losses the lehner trade

should be on the hot seat if we don't compete for the 8th seed or better this spring

kind of curious as to what you all expected...

he was hired January, 2014 and proceeded to clean house...buffalo finished last in 2013-14 and he finished the team's scorched-earth rebuild the following season...included in that rebuild was trading for kane who wouldn't finish the 2014-15 season, and the team finished last again...

he snagged o'reilly and traded away an excess 1st-rounder for Lehner at the 2015 nhl draft...

murray has been looking to upgrade his blueline but has been unable to up until now and he used an excess third-rounder to talk to Vesey...

the team finished well last season and even with the team as constructed now, they look to be a playoff bubble team two full seasons after consecutive last place finishes

- Michael Pachla

Great post.

About the only thing that I really had any issues with GMTM doing was trading Neuvirth. He could have been our guy for the future instead of Lehner but I understand there was concern that keeping Neuvy here would have won us more games than we could have afforded to get to the tank.

I'm not a Darcy fan, but why would you think that? Tanking was the plan and his team finished last to get Reinhart
- sbroads24

Ekblad would have been great but I for one am looking forward to watching Rino for a long time. He still has so much room to develop and improve, and to say his first NHL season was anything but a pleasant surprise would be a lie. I know we all expect a #2 overall to be successful right away but he came in to the draft with all the stuff you cant teach...the growth physically is still ahead of him and the kid is going to be a beast imo.

Nothing too much more substantial than what has already happened.

I do disagree with the bolded.

I really am curious...he's only been on the job for 2 1/2 years and the first season and a half was devoted to a complete overhaul...

that said, i'm with you all on his trades and that there are way too many question marks for comfort at this point, but I think he's built a pretty solid core right now especially with the acquisitions of o'reilly and now okposo...and it's a young core ta boot

that, of course is As_I_See_It

. I think a bunch feel there are all these trades that could have been done instead. Lots of them work IF the other GM wants what we are offering

I'm not saying he's a bad GM. In fact, this offseason made me like him twice as much as I did. However, I do think he has been over rated by people solely because he's Darcy's polar opposite.

His UFA signings have been pretty sub par. Moulson deal is terrible, Franson underwhelmed, Cody McCormick???, Okposo obviously is a wait and see (I like the deal $$ wise, not term)

His trades are about 50/50 depending on Lehner.

It's too early to judge his drafting

It's just way too early to say he's a good or great GM

I think what bothers me most about him is just the timing of it. He went big and overpaid for players he liked before he knew what kind of team he really had. And then chose this off- season of all to play it relatively safe.

The O'Reilly trade i understand but he made a massive move for two complimentary players before they even drafted the franchise C. Not exactly how it's supposed to happen

Im a little surprised at the lack of improvement to the bottom 6. Id think the penguins run would make them realize some speed there would help.

good point...

I get the edginess, especially in light of the bills playoff drought...and I get the kane thing...but it doesn't happen overnight and the sabres are building a lot faster than most any other team in this situation

Agreed. I think they really needed a top 9 burner.

I do think Bailey can be that guy though.

But many on here are judging him already. We had Darcy here for some from diapers too puberty. TM is here trying to put it back together in a few years . Seems to be on the right track. Can't say anyone else would have done better. or worse. And chances of getting that better GM ? Same with "we should have traded ____ for ____. Damn you TM !"

To all Vesey for third rounder haters, and Buffalo haters in general. The trade was smart because it gave opportunity to dispel current thinking about Buffalo in general, and specifically the Sabres. Buffalo is not the dead and decaying city it was(and which path the cities of many mockers are still on). It is growing by leaps and bounds into a very desirable city. It is also small enough to remain very personable unlike many corporate metropolis. All your sharp?? wits and mocking spirits just don't bear out regarding Buffalo any longer, and that will become more and more evident with each passing year.

I feel like the draft fell behind today... I'm blaming Jr of course but definitely not as exciting as yesterday. Feels pretty authentic then.

Stop making sense Pach! None of that around here.

Do I think GMTM has a perfect track record here in Buffalo - absolutely not. However, he has a plan, he is bold and he is willing to take risks. These are all strong attributes for the type of GM that I would want if I owned a sports franchise - or was the fan of one.

We spend a lot of time on the past (Myers trade, Lehner trade, Vesey for a 3rd etc). What's done is done. All I know is that he inherited a gigantic pile of steaming poop. In 2 1/2 years he has taken the greatest collection of misfit hockey players and turned them into a potential bubble playoff team. Not bad from where I stand. My vote is to see how the rest of the summer/fall plays out before we start the #fireGMTM hashtag.
