At this point it's pretty clear that Vesey is not going to two teams, Nash and Buffalo, and that's fine. But what is happening here with Chicago is pretty low for a team that prides themselves on being top-notch. Send a low-level scout to look at Vesey, it's classless for the Bowman and Quinneville to scout a guy who's rights belong to another team. Chicago might have the inside track to Vesey now, but man up and at least pay Buffalo a 5th round pick to sign the guy, this dirt bag maneuver is beneath a dynasty team like Chicago. It just shows how little they may truly have left in the system to stoop this low, Chicago's days are numbered. - sskkoo1
How is it classless?
You guys are (frank)ing nuts it's hysterical. |

You are allowed to scout any player you like, you simply can't have contact with them. Perhaps GMTM hasn't phoned he NHL because he probably has his own people there that have conformed all chicago is doing is scouting. You can't just file a tampering charge because someone is watching a game. It doesn't matter how high up in the organization they are. - VT001
OR maybe he hasn't phoned the nhl because there's no reason too due to nobody doing anything wrong |

I totally agree, but that wasn't my point. Chicago can sign him, go ahead, they can scout him too, but to have the G.M. and the head coach fly to Mass. to scout him in person at some bar league is ridiculous. They should just call GMTM at this point and ask if they can talk to him, I'm sure GMTM will say yes just to move the process along.
I never suggested tampering charges or even complaining to the league, but The fact the people are suggesting that this low-ball move is somehow legit because it's Chicago doing and they have cups recently is utter nonsense. That the Sabres shouldn't be irked because they don't have any cups is ridiculous. Bowman should show some decency and pick up a damn phone and call GMTM already. - sskkoo1
What's ridiculous is you getting upset bcs Bowman and Quenville are scouting a player that becomes a UFA on August 15th. If Murray were doing this you'd be praising him |

Why would anyone do that. It seems everyone with half a brain cell knows he's waiting until after August 15th to decide, well.... everyone except Tim Murray that is. |

Teams are scouted all year...every year by GM's.
Why would they send a low level scout...that makes 0 sense.
As long as they are not talking to him then it's all good.
BTW...do you think Buffalo would have traded a third round pick for him if they had never scouted him when he was Nashville property??? How "low" of them!! |

So they should pick up the phone and ask to talk about him but they aren't allowed to watch him play before hand?
Are you really suggesting that? |

Garth, I mentioned this in your last blog, Vesey doesn't want to play for Bylsma, he wants to play for Q. Is that so hard to understand? |

Why is that ridiculous? What else is going on in the middle of July at the team offices? Andy why does Bowman have to call Murray? What is ridiculous is how you sound just like Garth whining about it. |

I don't think he signs with Buffalo, Boston or Toronto.
I think it will be somewhere people don't pick.
LA, Edmonton, Philadelphia, San Jose, Anaheim.
A lot of teams can offer things just as attractive as the BOS, BUF and TOR.

Did Buffalo scout Veasey before making the trade with Nashville?
He was technically Nashville property.
Scouting and tampering are two very different things which some people don't understand. |

1) I believe the Hawks have 1-2 of their own prospects typically in these games
2) It is no secret that the Hawks intend to talk to Vesey on 8/15, as will about 10 other teams
Bowman and Q showing up at a few of his games is no criminal (or ethical) offense. get over it, dude.
In all likelihood, if Vesey was going to sign with Buffalo, it would have happened by now.
Classless? That is harsh, and really wrong.
Days are numbered? What? Is someone gonna shiv them?

Nobody can offer anything that every other team can't offer.
It's an ELC.
Except Boston - that can offer a chance to play for his hometown team - the one he grew up dreaming about.
Smart money is on Boston.
This whole thing is laughable - yes, teams should be interested in him, because there is no downside to signing him.
But he ain't the next Gretzky. |

Yeah...I'd guess Boston but Boston looks like it could be a tire fire in a couple of years.
Chicago can offer and winning environment and playing with Toews (he only has to beat out Panik). |

There is more than just the money.
I know that the money will be the same no matter where.
Toronto is full rebuild and seems to be furthest of any teams from competing.
Buffalo seems to keep pushing the Eichel thing.
Boston can push the hometown thing.
But Chicago can show a winning culture and chance to play with Kane and Toews.
LA is a fun place and he could play with Kopitar and Carter.
Philly can offer a top 6 role and have a boatload of d prospects coming.
So while money will be the same, there are other things that can be offered.

Two quick points:
1) I don't know how Toronto ended up on his "list" - other than his dad is a scout for the organization, his brother was a late draft pick, and the media endlessly speculates with no evidence. The talk of Toronto being "one of the favourites" seems to have died down, but I'd be shocked if he comes here (quite frankly, I'd be shocked if he goes anywhere other than Boston).
2) This talk of him being "guaranteed a top 6 role (which I've seen mentioned in connection to half a dozen teams by half a billion writers, bloggers and posters) is crazy. No rookie who hasn't played a single game in the NHL would ever get that from any GM. They may tell him that, but they sure as hell don't mean it.
There's no way he's going to be a top 6 player this year. The learning curve will be too great.
P.S. Yeah, if I was in his shoes, I would at least consider L.A. |

There is a way.
A rebuilding team like Philly could slot him on the 2nd line with Couturier and Schenn.
Chicago could slide him right into the top 6.
Buffalo is offering him a chance to play with Eichel so that is a top 6 role.
Some teams can live with growing pains because they are at a different level compared to others.

Bozak came in as a top 6.
I'd say Boston, Chicago or Buffalo. I'd be shocked if it was somewhere else.
