We have only one, Gil Perreault. He finished with 512 goals and 814 assists for 1,326 points. He spent his entire career with us. Dave Andreychuk is #2 with 804 points.

Of course it is, as it is with any corporate entity. Everyone is important, that said, it's not as black and white as you're painting it.

Ownership, Chief Operating Officer & President of Hockey Operations would have upper management meetings to discuss corporate/business goals and objectives as well as a budget. That's what would happen in my corporate world anyways.

Benning, IMO, would take his budget and path forward from these meetings to try and set his operation up from there. His job is to build a team, to manage the pro and amateur scouting, to manage the coaching staff, to manage the players and their agents along with their contract situations, to manage the training staff, etc.

The furthest thing from his mind, outside of towing the company line, is to sell tickets. The man is busy trying to manage a hockey team, which is a huge task when you think of all that goes into it.

That's why I sometimes wonder why Linden doesn't curtail Benning on the public speaking, they contradict each other sometimes because it's NOT Bennings job to sell.

I think that's a little short-sighted. Everyone in the organization should be cognizant of how important the bottom line is; that is, (in the case of a hockey team) ensuring you are putting out the best (and most entertaining) product in order to fill seats and have a successful franchise. As a GM, Benning should be able to multi-task the various functions required of that role and that includes looking at the big picture.

Yes, upper management sets certain goals but they are usually framed and broken down into generalities (i.e. increased growth, branding, market share, sales etc). All of the successful companies are doing away with the archaic model of a line-management type of system (where everyone essentially lives in their own little bubble) and using more progressive and innovative ways to achieve success; namely, ensuring an all around coordinated effort by all factions (where many functions overlap a little which in turn allows for a better transition and communication across the board)

I've worked in the corporate world for a long time and even though my job was more along the analytical side of things, the company's philosophy was that everyone in the company should be aware of and promoting the brand and, wherever possible, being involved in sales. Additionally, we were encouraged to think outside the box and seek out new and exciting opportunities to grow that market share.

To that end, Benning is not in his own little bubble (despite the 'autonomy' of the position). He has to make sure that he follows the vision and philosophy of the company - which is to be a successful franchise. Therefore there is always going to be an underlying component at work, where he needs to adhere to that vision. I don't think there is a fully autonomous position in any business, it comes down to a collective effort and communication at all levels. Using all of one's resources is the difference between success and failure. And that means it's a collective team effort in meeting company's goals (in this case, producing an exciting and successful entertainment model)

I agree, but does it make sense to put someone of inexperience in charge of the very delicate and complicated job of restructuring your team? It’s been proven by history that teams who don’t do it right can lose millions trying to get back to respectability.

Is this a good time for the franchise to implement an “on the job training” policy? It’s not how I would structure my business through a turbulent time.

Drafting has been a longtime weakness.
It makes total sense JB was needed after the cup run window ended.
If u cannot see what he has done & was hired to do idk what else there is to say.

What JB has done so far was it needed or not?

Well a 308 bolt action is far more accurate then a semi auto, however the rate of fire is far decreased.

Utica loves the Comets . It is a big part of there culture. Linden also said Comets have 41 home games and 41 more away/home games meaning the fans travel well with their support. No reason to move them at all. We get our weekly reports and we can follow on Internet.

That trade would not make much sense to the Leafs before the season starts as they will have no one that can score. Plus they have Frank Corrado as the right shot d-man in their top 4

Tryamkin can only bolt if sent down to AHL and doesn't want to. If they ask him and he says no, then they opt to keep him in NHL i don't think he can bolt simply by being asked.

I underestimated the fans in that area, the positive impact they have on the players is nice to see. Guys appear to actually like playing there, which is good for moral

Also TL's point about most roadtrips are a couple hour bus ride is ideal considering what the NHL club has to go through travelwise

If that ain't fuked up nothing is.

Dave Pratt was firing half the city today. I know he use to screw around a lot in his younger days. I think he has more offsprings than he knows about.

You said Benning knows rebuilds don't sell tickets. We are three years deep already in a rebuild . It is not like we have to start one this year

Ah, you quoted the wrong one, hence the confusion. Yes you can't sell a rebuild to fans, and ultimately with no clear cut #1 center coming, you can't say our rebuild is 100% complete. BoHo could become that #1 center, he has the potential, just more likely a solid 2c.
