So let me get this right. In talking about past players and what they've accomplished, nobody cares about winning scoring titles because when Giroux was coming close year after year, there was a great pride among everyone here when we weren't playing for anything but Giroux nearly won the scoring title twice in three seasons and contended for the hart trophy. Stuff like this is remembered and spoken highly of around here to make points whether a player might be a Flyer or not.

This is just a popularity contest as BiggE is now proving. If someone doesn't like something a post, they goat me into an argument because of something I said that upset them last week.

Quit taking everything so personally. Popularity on Hockeybuzz.com means very little in life.

Of course it's fun to root for your own players to snag individual awards but without team success those awards mean squat. As a fan, nothing means more to me than playoff hockey for the Flyers every spring. Anything can happen from there so I never set my expectations too far past that. At least not until Spring.

I agree completely that team goals and winning the Cup is far more important than individual awards. However, there are frequent conversations on here about individual awards and how many felt Gostisbehere deserved the Calder. That went on for days. Or how Giroux or another player was snubbed by Team Canada.

You are correct. And when put like that, no one's going to get heated. But when you (not you personally, just any person) turn defensive on a dime and get snarky at the drop of a hat, then people are going to do the same in turn.

Exactly! Am I seriously missing something? What's wrong with seeing my players get recognition?

I haven't got snarky at all today but honestly, don't pretend like you don't stir the pot for your own person satisfaction.

Some of you have been bitter towards MJL forever because of your inability to just get over poop. I can't believe you of all people posted this.

So you're gonna give me attitude when I'm not giving attitude? My, you certainly are a much bigger man than I am. All for what? Because I want to contend for more than just Cups? What's wrong with that??

I said contend, not win and as I just stated with names, the Blackhawks do it. The Kings do it when they were winning. The Red Wings did it when they were winning. The Devils were doing it when they were winning. Lidstrom, Brodeur, Datsyuk, Kane, Keith, Doughty, Neidermyer, Zetterberg, Toews, Fedorov.....Do I need to go on? They didn't always win but the players always contended for something every year.

My comments aren't all of what I want now. When did I say this? Even if I did, so what.

A team that has missed the playoffs 3 times since 1995? A team that has 2 Stanley Cup appearances and 6 Conference Finals appearances since 1994-1995. So that's 12 years and 6 times in the conference finals? Yes the past 4 years have been bad.

Other than G on the current roster is...

Coots is a 2 time top 10 Selkie Trophy finalist. (will probably be there annually now with his reputation)
Ghost is a top 3 Calder Trophy Finalist. (one of our D prospects will probably become a yearly fixture in the Norris concversation, Looking at Ghost and Provorov mainly here based on current press on them)
Mason was a top 10 Vezina in 2013-2014. (he's not bad and with the improving defense will probably be in Vezina discussion again)

Excellent job Bill, as usual. It seems that Ken Dryden is the only one left from that era who still doesn't recognize the talent the Flyers had on those teams. Phil Esposito, in particular, always talks about how good the Flyers really were.

This is a great rationalization to keep from taking a long look at yourself but I'm a villian for posting what I would like to see moving forward?
- roenick97

for a team who hasnt won a cup in 40 years now i would think the fan base would be looking forward to a cup more than anything, and only a cup. rooting for individual awards in my opinion is ridiculous. but if u want to go ahead, im not telling u to stop. just explaining to u y ur getting poop

it shouldnt be what ur hoping for each year at the same level as a cup. while we were in the hunt for that playoff spot it was awesome to ALSO see ghost put up great numbers and root for a calder for him, but it was just a wrinkle. the most important thing is winning and winning the cup, if we get awards thrown in its a bonus.

im definitely not sitting here, counting every second until october until i can see our hockey team play again, with the thoughts of winning a calder or hart trophy tho. to me, its ludicrous.

So, projections:

Based on the current roster, and assuming good health, who will the top-5 scorers be, and what kind of point totals do you expect?

Mason over/under 50 starts

Mason over/under 30 wins

Plus/minus leader

Number of fighting majors

Conversation is over.

For the record Ghost contending for the Calder helped this season become a little more exciting....which is what I was getting at.

Scoring:

1.) G, with around 70 or so points
2.) Voracek, in the same neighborhood as G. I think Jake bounces back this year.
3.) Brayden Schenn, with points in the mid-50's
4.) Ghost, with points in the low 50's.
5.) Simmer, with points somewhere in the 50's. Maybe a slight drop off from last year.

Mason: Barely over 50 starts

Mason: Under 30 wins.

+/- Leader: MDZ (because why not)

# of fighting majors: 10

4. Ghost 53
5. Simmonds 52

Mason over 50 starts, but just barely
Mason over 30 wins, but also just barely

Plus/minus leader will be, gonna go out on a limb here and say Provorov. He will be somewhat sheltered and he's that good.

Fighting majors? I have no idea, I'll go with 25
