He's worn out his welcome in two cities now. He's trouble. But he wouldn't be the first reclamation project to turn it around, and he's a very good hockey player, tough as nails to boot. that one punch KO on Matt Cooke was a thing of beauty.

I would probably trade him for Bozak, if offered. Bozak is someone who is probably on his way out anyway, I'd use him to take a shot on Kane. A nasty 60 point winger that you don't screw with can be a beautiful thing in the NHL. Especially when you're rolling some soft undersized guys like Nylander and Marner in your top 6. Potentially Connor Brown too.

If he came at a discount, like one of the two things I mentioned, I would gamble that Babcock, a known hardass disciplinarian, can keep him in check. If not, it's not a huge loss.

Full team signed, about 10M in cap space, when you count the Horton LTIR. Probably closer to $13M after Lupul gets injured at some point this year.

Going forward, Lupul is the only bad contract on the books past this year, and he's only got one more. then it's all good deals and ELCs.

Do they need to be under opening night? Does Cowan count or is that still unknown? Why even buyout Cowan what does the savings or credit do for you when you don't need it. I love them having cap flexibility moving forward it looks less important as the class of free agents seems diminished for next year and the year after that.

He'll sign a cap friendly hit of 9.2 over 8 years mostly paid in bonus
even if there a lockout/strike.
