That is true, but i mean Sutters better then Hansen, sure an arguement could be made Hansen playing up and down the lineup, but so can sutter, hes been on the third line his career and put up 21 goals a few times, if he was riding Shotgun with the Sedins most of the season i wouldnt be suprised if he put up 50+ points
- phyllee

Hansen makes about 60% of what Sutter does, and it only under contract for one year after this one. If Sutter stays healthy and doesn't have a great year, do you want to protect him and his $4.4 million salary?

I get how the draft works ...my comment was in regards to trying to get something for guys you might not protect ...if they aren't going to be protected by the Canucks then who trading for them is going to protect them ? Why trade for a guy you might lose ... LV has a cap floor they need to hit as well

I don't see the sutter name as any sort of draw in Las Vegas

- Redmile247

Vegas is a marketing giant. They can use the Sutter family name as a sell. As for selling at TDL every GM will be looking to do the same. This will be buyers market for this years TDL.

Sorry I just don't see how anyone in Vegas gives two poops about a 2/3c's small town Canada family name ...no matter how popular the sutters are in Canada

Are you forgetting that McPhee is the GM? He knows Sutter very well. He knows that the needs a player like Sutter. He has the name and can play 2/3c. Canucks don't have the C depth to give him a 1C. That he will look a Tampa, Blues or Buffalo for.

I'm not saying Vegas wouldn't pick up sutter ...but there is no chance I believe they will take him in hopes of marketing the sutter name

I don't understand this obsession the Canucks have for acquiring a right-handed shot defenseman for the power play. Most of the all time great offensive defensemen had left hand shots: Orr, Park, Bourque, Coffey, Housley, Potvin, Lindstom, Leetch, Robinson, etc, etc., etc. And most played the right side. I just don't get it, someone please explain?
- KTownKeith

The vast majority of players shoot left. Both our top right shooting defenceman are offencive wimps. To balance that we need an offencive wizard who shoots right. Also both the twins shoot left, you can generate more offensive pressure on the pp of you have more right left balance through the lineup

If he doesnt have a great year id be hesitant, but i mean Sutter is part of the new canucks core, when his contracts done hell be one year older then what Hansen is now.
I liked what i saw in the brief stint when he was healthy this season.

I personally think he's a stop gap player. I don't see him as an integral part of the Canucks future, which is what I would use to define the new core. I'm not saying that Hansen is, but I think he'd have more value as a trading chip moving forward due to the salary and term on his contract.

I don't think they have an obsession with having a right shot defensemen for the PP. They just wanted balance between the pairings. I do tend to agree that balancing right and left shot D man isn't a critical issue.

Evander Kane. I would only consider this option if:

1 - It's at a highly discounted price
2 - I've approached my leadership core and got their approval. I know I'm the boss, but I'm not bringing in this type of player, unless they agree to mentor him. Last thing I want is a bad room.
3 - I'm not trading any of my expansion protects or top prospects.

That's where the discount comes in. If I don't get him on the cheap, it ain't happening. So if it's Sbisa, Gaunce and a 3rd or god forbid 2nd. Ok.

You would think Buffalo could do better somewhere else. But maybe not. Who would take him now?

So if we land Kane. What happens to our expansion protect list? Who do we not protect? Or will another mid season trade solve that?

I havn't been drinking tonight. It's 35m until Tuesday.

Just wanna hear feedback. Especially when it comes to our protect list. Cause right now we're fine (unless Rodin shines)

- storm88

Totally agree with the discount for Kane. I'll be in the minority, (being a werewolf, story of my life) but I would do Beiga and Padan for Kane and a second. Other than to balance money, why give Buffalo something of great value when we are doing them a favor by taking their problem child.

For a minute, I was wearing rose-colored glasses too. Kane was an issue in Atlanta, they moved to Winnipeg...he was an issue, moved to Buffalo....was an issue but will be good in Van? Just because his family is here doesn't fix him. I am sure his family has the internet and cable.....I would bet dollars to doughnuts he's got a talking to more than once already, and he's still a frank-up. (all off ice, he's a talented hockey player......but so was Kassian)

As much as I wanna believe that sticking my hands in toxic waste will give me "spider powers", in reality I'll just develop cancer. Unless we get him for uber cheap, (first sign of poopy behaviour, cut him lose) why mortgage our future, or poison the lockerroom?

I don't think they'll trade him if he has a good season, unless someone really wants him bad enough to overpay.

I have no idea what trade value he would have.

Between 2010 and 2016

Daniel has 65.85 % of PP time and has provided the team with 75.56% of GF.

Henrik has 65.25% of PP time and has provided the team with 75.53% of GF

Daniel has 30.02% of 5v5 and has provided the team with 37.14% of GF

Henrik has 29.59% of 5v5 and has provided the team with 35.57% of GF.

So in other words both Sedin create a higher % of goals relative to their ice time while on the PP by a small margin. Or I don't think his theory stands up.

Why is he?
- golfingsince

He will be highly motivated to prove his worth to the fanbase and reward ownership for their investment. For a player that has usually been healthy this had to be the most frustrating season of his career. I suspect he will score 20 goals and add 20 assists all while providing defense and stability. That's a valuable player. If we ever make the playoffs he has proven he can up his game as well. Glass half full Golfing
