Just saying if people think chia is anything more than a 4th liner I find it laughable ...he is closer to lance bouma than Kyle Turris
- Redmile247

It was an example of what a change of scenery can do. The fact you think BT got him for the 4th line is laughable.

So chia is definitely a 3rd liner with a career high of 13 g and bouma is a 4th liner with 16 ?
- Redmile247

Chiasson has more upside as a middle 6 forward. Bouma wasn't even close to a big scorer in jr. Plus, GG had Chia in his 1st years in DAL and may know the right triggers to get O out of him.

Wonder if BT would be willing to give Hudler an offer if the coaching staff isn't satisfied with our top 6 by the end of camp..

Also possible we see Backlund tried out on the RW of the 1st line.

Backs has played wing before in Sweden but I'm pretty sure his value is much greater as a C. And a big fat NO to Hudler. He served his purpose here and both player and team have moved on and it should remain that way. Versteeg signing in the Swiss league is surprising to me. As a right shot RW, i would have considered offering him a 1 yr contract at around 1-1.5 mil.

Especially as L.A. just traded Valentin Zykov for him.

Prybil had surgery & won't be ready for start of the season & will probably start & get game up to speed in Stockton. Chiasson isn't a 4th line kind of player, he'll be on the 3rd or 2nd line depending on training camp & injuries.
- Kevin R

I hope not

Honestly I wouldn't even be that surprised if Chiasson spends time in the press box alternating with Bollig, if he's playing on our 2nd line then we are in trouble.

It isn't the 90's anymore, our 4th line doesn't need to be filled with guys like Bollig. Ottawa basically gave him to us for free, if he showed any ability to play top 6 minutes I think they would have held on to him.

I'd rather see Janko flipped to wing to play with Bennett for the start of his career than see one of Chiasson, Vey or Bouma playing top 6 minutes. We shoulda just signed (frank)ing Colborne, at least we knew what we had with him...

I get what your saying but I just don't see chiasson as this huge upgrade over a bouma type player ...cheap cost to take a gamble but by no mean should The flames pencil this guy in as 3rd line

At $2.5MM, I think he became a (Flames) victim of the cap once Brouwer was signed with no sight of a Wideman deal on the horizon.

Wonder if we can convince Arizona to take on Smid in the event he doesn't hit the LTIR. They seem to be absorbing all the dead money this year...

I think the addition of Brouwer was in part with the fact colborne didn't use his body for anything besides shielding the puck ...I think the flames brass wanted Joe to be more physical and he just didn't play that style

I agree he shouldn't be penciled in as a 2nd or even 3rd liner; he should battle it out with others and try to win the spot.

However, I believe his ceiling is much higher than Bouma. Bouma's wasn't even a .5 ppg player in jr. We have to realistically assume Bouma's 1 big year was an anomaly. Also should remember that Chiasson was the main piece coming back in the Spezza trade. OTT saw potential. He scored at a decent rate in the AHL, scored 7 pts in his 1st 7 games with DAL (yes I know, small sample) but did decently well his next year under GG.

His potential is much greater to be a top 6/9 scorer than Bouma's is.

I'm not high on bouma but I haven't seen anything from chiasson to make me believe he is a fringe guy ...could be win a spot sure ... But I don't think he was acquired to fill any need and was basically getting something for a D prospect who was going no where in cgy

No idea why we're comparing the 2 players? Completely different.

Wow! Yeah they just did it for fun. Chia may be brutal who knows, but to suggest they did it for sh!ts and giggles is funny.

Yea, I'm not sure BT traded for him with the idea of filling a role specifically. But I disagree with you about him being a "fringe" guy. I think he's 1 of those players that BT felt could meet higher expectations with a new team, especially one that just hired a head coach that he seemed to do pretty ok under. At very worst, he's a legit NHL'r, 4th liner, with the upside of a 2nd line power forward. What he becomes is largely up to him.

He's 25 and shown very little offensive upside ...I'm just not sure how much room he has to grow ..hope I'm wrong but I doubt it
