You know what pisses me off about guys like Kessel?

I work at the plant casting toilet flush handles. I make $14.38 an hour.

I look at a guy like Kessel, and he's just skating up and down the ice collecting millions of dollars.

I tells ya, I could do exactly what he does - and I'd be willing to do it for a lot less.

You know I had a tryout with a Double A team when I was 12. The only reason the coach didn't pick me was because his son was the #1 left winger, and he know that if I made the team his son wouldn't get as much ice time. I'm tellin' ya, if I had played on that team (a position I earned, unlike Billy Waterston), I'd probably be in the NHL right now.

I like things that shine.

Holland doesn't shine.

What if Holland stays in his spot and collects another awesome 9g 18a in 65g, but Hyman, Sosh, Brown, Leivo....would have had 14g and 22a? Maybe those few are GWGs and we add an extra 4 points in the standings and squeak in the playoffs.

What if one of the forechecks or hits by Sosh, Hyman, Brown, Leivo...that Holland doesn't do....leads to a turnover and a goal that adds a couple points in the standings.

What if Hyman, Brown...blocks a shot PK that doesn't end up in the net and the score stays 2-1 for a Leafs win.

Every little bit matters.

AND WHO THE (frank) CARES ABOUT HOLLAND ANYWAY? HE'S NOT KESSEL. HE DOESN'T DO ANYTHING SPECIAL.

When a player sucks, shiny new things should be playing.

You don't win Stanley Cups with guys like Kessel.

You win them with guys like Komarov.

The Wedgies went to an Islanders game in Brooklyn last February. We were riding back on the subway, and got the entire car engaged on whether it is true or not that New York fans are divided into two distinct camps: Jets/Islanders/Mets/Nets vs. Giants/Rangers/Yankees/Knicks.

Most of the car agreed it was true. Geographic/socio-economic divide.

It was pretty interesting.

- Atomic Wedgie

Yeah, I can see that for sure. One of the guys I work with is from Long Island, but he's on the Giants/Rags/Yanks/Knicks side of things despite that. He's mentioned before that it definitely seems to be that particular divide...

Sosh: faster skater, better shot and hits...a lot.

Hyman: faster, goes to the front of the net, hits, forechecks hard and plays the PK.

Holland: just an almost decent hockey player that doesn't hit, isn't fast and haven't seen anything special about his game. Nothing stands out. (And, I wanted to like him 3 years ago.)

Leivo is a better version of Holland. I would rather him get a spot.

Brown is better than Holland. I would rather him get a spot.

Holland had his chance. We know what he is....which is meh.

But here's my question:

Why the frank do we want to have Holland taking up a roster spot all year, if the final payout is going to be a conditional seventh-round pick?

- Atomic Wedgie

I didnt say all year. I agree he dosnt need to be taking up a roster spot. I said he would be gone by 1/4 of the season

Glad someone agrees.

I cannot, for the life of me, see why some are defending Holland.

Guys like that shouldn't even get their name on the back of a jersey. They are "whatever" players. Seat fillers.

If we are going to win we need to get rid of all whatever players and fill spots with Martin, Hyman, Sosh, Leivo, Brown, Matthews, Marner, Nylander.....players that, at least, do one thing noticeably well.

Agree with this. Holland was rated as the 106th best NHL center last year showing improvement on his points/60 - who cares? Give another player the opportunity, surely a team trying to improve doesn't have to muck around the dregs of the NHL for a 4th line center. Even Bozak - who will be gone soon as well was 66th on that list. We need better - even though there is going to be pain!

In fairness, most of those players haven't had the chance to piss on people's expectations with their mehness yet. That's the difference.

I don't see a problem with the "We know Player A is meh and Player B might be something. Why is Player A playing in place of Player B during a rebuild?" argument.
