Holland already cleared waivers, can't he just be assigned to the Marlies?

They were stuck with him no matter what, that's why.
But now they can send him down.

- the_eye

They weren't stuck with him, though.

They could have simply not offered him a new contract - he would have become a UFA.

Anyhoo, I guess it really must be the dog days of summer, because we are leaving no stones unturned on the signing of a fringe player to a contract a few gift certificates over league minimum.

Anyone know what flavour if Gatorade the Leafs will be using this year?

I think the lemon/lime would be a huge mistake. If this team truly wants to take step forward this year, we need to use orange - at least for the home games.

I still think he's a better choice for 3rd line centre than Bozak, and next year Nylander can step right in.

But here's my question:

Why the frank do we want to have Holland taking up a roster spot all year, if the final payout is going to be a conditional seventh-round pick?

- Atomic Wedgie

He's not really "taking up" a roster spot. He's filling it. It's not like the Leafs have piles of options, and they'll have even less later in the season. Who else will they have playing 4th line centre? How about after the trade deadline? Or after a centre gets injured? Or, for that matter, on the Marlies 2nd or third line?

yeah, exactly. A 4th line depth player at $1.3M for one year? Who cares? It's not an onerous contract, would probably be what you'd have to pay to fill a depth role anyway, it means nothing.

I couldn't agree more. After all, blue and orange are complementary colours. It's science!!

I think it was more so that they didn't want to risk paying him whatever he was awarded by the arbitrator. Now that he has a solid number could result in some interest...maybe.

Laich will play 4th line centre.

Anyhoo, I honestly don't care.

Gave the Belsize another chance last night.

We ordered the meatloaf, fish and chips and the kids' chicken fingers.

38 minutes to get it.

Good food, but it simply takes too long.

No point in that... I think when we talk about him being tradeable, we're talking about trading him for equal or positive value.

With Bernier, at least there is the hope he can bounce back.
With Phaneuf, his name carries enough weight that he still had value.
With Polak, he was seen as the kind of physical beast you need in the playoffs.
With Clarkson, he was valuable to Columbus, because in theory he could play, and had an insured contract.. and we didn't get any value for him outside of cap space we would have had if we hadn't signed him.

etc etc.

Pretty much every player we traded for value actually had a characteristic people would want.

Holland is "meh" across the board.

IMO the only likely trade for him that would make sense would be for a guy who is overall worse, but better in an area of need. Or as part of a package where we get a poopty contract and a decent piece.

- Feeling Glucky?

Agreed. Holland does literally nothing to speak of. Cannot stand the guy.

On the plus side, he'll take one of the spots that Hyman, Soshnikov, Brown or Marner would've had.

You timed how long your food took? You need to learn how to relax and have another pint.

It sounds weird to say considering the huge schedule but the series this weekend is huge.

It's a new pub in the neighbourhood. I really want to like it.

But the first two times I've been, it's taken far too long for the food to arrive.

So last night, I timed them - and confirmed what I suspected: their food service is lousy.

And running the stopwatch function on my watch didn't prevent me from ordering another pint.

So jam it, you Momesso-lovin' dope fiend.

Bautista's first game back. Leading off again.

Hope that helps, because I'd be pretty sad if my Jays tickets got compared to a Finger 11 show too Hate that band. I wish the Rainbow Butt Monkeys would get back together though.

The Greyest of Blue Skies was a fantastic record.

Pretty much everything after it sucked balls though
