Don't know anything about the kid, but I guess he'd be a good addition to the Marlies squad who will most likely lose a ton of their guys to the main roster.

SOURCE = FANGRAPHS

You're conflating the overall RF rankings with his defense.

I'm addressing defense specifically.

Maybe his 2015 season might help widen the sample to your liking?

Range: -8
UZR: -9.9

This means that in 2015, Bautista in RF meant 9.9 extra runs against.

His cannon arm meant average defense in right. Since he blew it out trying to show up Delmon Young, his defense in right has been horrible. Putting Upton in right with Jose DHing and Edwin at first should considerably improve the team D.

- 1979AD

I see the stats now - and I agree his defense has been affected significantly by that stupid play. And with strictly going by the 2015 and since stats, He is mediocre as a right fielder - 17th best of 30 when judged by these stats. I believe he is much better defensively than Saunders. His WAR stats, excluding 2016 are very good - not Donaldson good, but top ten in the majors good - certainly a more meaningful stat than Range and UZR. I see Smoak sitting out more than any other player as a result of this trade. I don't think it makes sense but Gibbons might try Bautista in left and put Upton in right when Sauders is DH.
