No, because of the stupidity in thinking Holland is good could lead to delusions of future GMing.
- underhill14
Who’s saying Holland is good? At $1.3M he’s getting paid like a below average nhl’er. Seems spot on.
But personally, I haven’t seen anything to say that any of brown, sosh, hyman or leivo are better nhl plyaers.

I haven't really seen him get called good anyway. He's defiantly a decent depth forward tho.. you're projecting guys points after like 10 games where they were coming in excited.. if they could do that over 70 games that'd be cool. I can't see it, if a guy like Hyman or Leivo was 20 I'd be more excited about them but I mean Holland isn't a 32 year old guy putting up 20 points. Maybe if Holland gets a spot over Brown or Marner I'd be disappointed but I still think having a guy like Holland is at 1.3 is more valuable then Martin at 2.5 for 4 years. To each their own tho. If Holland comes to camp and gets his ass handed to him by the likes of Hyman Leivo Sosh then by all means they should make it but if he out plays them then they probably aren't ready anyway.. move Holland at the deadline and bring someone up then.. |

Agreed.
Of Brown, Sosh, Leivo and Hyman, only Brown put up similar offense to Holland in the AHL at similar ages. I’m hopeful Brown can be a 50-point player in the nhl at some point. Expecting leivo to maintain his 25% shooting percentage from last year is a little suspect. And the clock is ticking with Hyman. He’s only a year younger than Holland and has proven nothing at the nhl level.

I think my only gripe is that having a spot for Holland won't allow us to see what Leivo, Brown, Sosh, Hyman can do in 70 games because they won't get that many games.
When you can sign a 4 year player for $1.3m....kinda means he sucks.
Martin is apples to oranges. I like seeing contact in a contact sport. He gets 2.5m, more than Holland, because he is good at something...#1 in the NHL for hits.
Holland is not in the top 100 of anything except #1 in the NHL for getting some injury called "lace bite"....twice. |

I agree except what's wrong with Martin?....I think teams need a guy or 2 that pound players. IMO

I honestly just don't like the term. I don't mind him on the 4th line and from my understanding he can somewhat play like PK. Only thing I don't like about Martin is 4 years. 2.5 is a bit high but nothing crazy.. I don't like that people think other teams players aren't going to hit the the young guys because Martin is on the team either |

that's not why I like the hitters...forecheck...turnovers...as an example...nobody was rushing the puck with a guy like Holland forechecking....at least not until he got back from his benching...then he actually started to look like he cared...
they'll hit our young guys...but there won't be no Marchand speed bags with Polak or Martin on the ice...that's for sure. |

I doubt Holland has a guaranteed spot on the roster. I wouldn't worry about it. Babcock will choose the best team he can. |

Holland has an above average NHL wrist shot.
And that's about it. If he played with a decent set up guy he could get 12-15 goals if he stayed healthy. |

ya, I'm sure Polak or Martin would stand there after the whistle and not jump in?
I didnt say it will stop them...but they won't get Sedin'd after the whistle.
You don't need to jump in Burn. |

possibly...I have no idea how you'd measure a wrist shot...compare it to Kadri's? |

he isnt there to be a bodyguard
but if things start to get dicey in a game its nice to have a guy like that to send over the boards
its not protection... but a guy who can skate and hit will generally make the opposition a little more timid when it comes to running the young guys because they know its gonna come right back at them |

They weren't stuck with him, though.
They could have simply not offered him a new contract - he would have become a UFA.
Anyhoo, I guess it really must be the dog days of summer, because we are leaving no stones unturned on the signing of a fringe player to a contract a few gift certificates over league minimum.
Anyone know what flavour if Gatorade the Leafs will be using this year?
I think the lemon/lime would be a huge mistake. If this team truly wants to take step forward this year, we need to use orange - at least for the home games. - Atomic Wedgie
