again, missing my point. im not talking about the length or money, at all, im talking about how we arrived where we are today, on the verge of arbitration, something we have no gotten close to with any of the other aforementioned players. please show me where i said i think hextall feels about his players by the money he offers them. the point ive been trying to make is that the path towards getting brayden a new contract felt, and in fact was, a lot different than any before him. and, due to this, it seems to me that hextall feels differently about schenn's future with the flyers. of course, a deal got done today in the 11th hour, so hexy seems to think he is a part of their future. but there was a lot of doubt and to me, in my opinion, Hexy isnt quite as sold on schenn in conjunction with the resources he used to retain him, compared to contracts he has done in the past.

I understand the point you are trying to make. But I think you are comparing apples to oranges. B Schenn is a high pedigree core player who had/has a LOT more leverage when it comes to utilizing the arbitration system as compared to Raffl, Weal, Manning (to name the other two players who wanted to go to arb). So in this case, it IS different because Schenn is a higher level player.

It may be the case that you are correct about Hexy's motivation, but I think it has much more to do with Schenn and where HE believes he should be valued.

I just got home, and I can't be bothered to back-read. Someone please give me the tl:dr version of the reactions to the Schenn signing so far.

Good deal for both sides with just a slight overpayment we can live with.

Schenn sucks and is completely overpaid because he is basically Ville Leino.

I think that bolded part seems to be how Hexy is operating so far which is really good to see..

All his moves seem to be quite calculated and therefore somewhat predictable. Never a bad strategy when building a strong foundation.

If he performs the same as last season, then it's a good contract.

If he performs less than last season, bad contract.

If he performs more than last season, bargain contract.

Won't know for sure until he plays this year. Hopefully he earns his money. If not...Ville Leino.

So 66% chance it works out? That's how math works right?

Not to mention the player has to sit in the room while the team rips apart his game.

The Isles will have to protect Pulock in the ED or risk losing him. Boychuck (NMC), Leddy, Hamonic, de Haan and Hickey are their other dmen so picking three or even four of those six will leave a good player exposed.

A professional season may still count for a player in a season where his contract slides. This is because the slide rule calculates age based on the player's age on September 15. So a player who turns 20 between September 16 and December 31 could have his contract slide because he does not play 10+ NHL games. However, if that player plays 1+ professional game in that season, for expansion purposes his age is considered to be 20 and the season counts as a professional season. As a result of this distinction, the following players previously believed to be expansion exempt will need to be protected or otherwise will be eligible to be drafted by Las Vegas:

William Carrier (BUF)
Emile Poirier (CGY)
Hunter Shinkaruk (CGY)
Ryan Hartman (CHI)
Anthony Mantha (DET)
Jonathan-Ismael Diaby (NSH)
Ryan Pulock (NYI)
Kerby Rychel (TOR)

If they don't plan on using the 8 skater protection option, then I'd expect some trades from the Isles involving their D-corps within the next year.

"Confirmed: Brayden Schenn did not receive trade/move protection in new 4-year deal. Was eligible in final two years. "

Based on my math and projected line up below, I think the Flyers will be slightly under the cap on opening night. A forward can be sent down 3 games later to create the necessary breathing room.

Raffl-Giroux-Voracek
Weise-Couturier-Simmonds
Read-Cousins-Laughton
Lyubimov-Gordon-Bellemare
Vandevelde
Schenn

MDZ-Gudas
Ghost-Macdonald
Provorov-Streit

You're right my bad I completely ignored the fact that he said Opening Night lineup. Also isn't he suspended 3 games?
