Schenn's contract is no different than any other player. If he produces it will be a good deal. If he doesn't, it won't be. - MJL

Exactly, but that's the reality of the situation, and how the fan base will judge the deal, isn't it? |

Schenn is the new Carter of this fan base. He will be judged to a different standard than everyone else. I don't think it's fair, and he's pretty much being set up to fail in the fans' eyes, but that's how I see it. |

Schenn just had his best season of his career spending a lot of time with Giroux (not his time) but the moment that's split up, if Schenn's point production drops, he won't both worthy of the contract. - roenick97
He scored at a higher rate when he was with Couturier. |

Agreed. If he goes three weeks without scoring, you'll hear about how bad the contract is within 2 weeks of his slump. |

Doesn't mean he should play with Couturier. Couturier wasn't a healthy player this season.

Anyone in the top 6 who goes 3 weeks without scoring will be criticized. With Schenn, it will be more like 3 games before the wolves come out. |

If he had better production with a hurt Couturier over and a healthy Giroux, just think how much better he'd have been with a healthy Couturier. |

Even worse.. if he has a game where he isnt all that noticeable people will start talking about Trayden Schenn.
He is a solid young top 6 forward who can play 1st or second line in that left wing spot. He is also a punishing forchecker when he is on his game. |

Heck, we still have to explain that 70 points is top 15 production in the whole NHL. On Carchidis comments there are people who say that Schenn should be getting 35 goals for his contract. 8 players scored 35 goals last season. 8! |

True, but the comments section is where I really torture myself.
Only 14 players averaged a point a game or higher last season. And 6 of them, played 2 games or less.......

Or he felt that it was more important to get Giroux and Simmonds playing with a different player while Voracek was slumping.
The coach' responsibility is to get the entire team playing well, not to cater to one or two players (unless they are top-10 NHL players). If he felt that playing Schenn on Giroux's line would have a better cumulative effect on the team as a whole, then that's where he should play Schenn. |

As far as negotiations are concerned, I think it's pretty obvious that Hextall didn't want to pay what the Schenn camp was asking for, for most of the negotiations. A contract negotiation is a compromise. As I stated earlier, in some negotiations, both the team and the player, are on the same page, and easily agree to a contract. In some cases, the numbers the team wants to pay, and what the player wants, are separated by some distance, and it takes longer to come to a compromise and an agreement.
My opinion that Hextall wanted to sign Schenn to a multi year deal is fully supported by the facts that Hextall stated it publicly, multiple times, and he did in fact, sign Schenn to a multi year deal, worth over 5M a year.
What facts can you offer to support your opinion? - MJL
yes, your opinion that hextall wanted to sign schenn, and then did, is supported by the facts. except thats not what im arguing. you keep going back to that and im wondering if you even read through the whole point.
ALL im saying is, in my opinion, Hextall feels different about Schenn. NOT that he doesnt want him on the team, NOT that he didnt want to sign him, NOTHING along those lines. my OPINION, is that how i have seen his contract negotiations play out, my OPINION, is hextall thinks about him differently.
thats it. done. |

I like Schenn with Couturier. For some reason they seem to play a more physical game when on the same line which I think brings out the best of them when they play a little nasty.
One of the reasons I would love Konecny on this team is I feel that line needs a playmaker type. Add someone like Konecny and I think they would mesh well.

I thought the top of discussion before we went to bed was to cater to Scott Laughton. |
