Super long term?

I bet if we give him a 30 year deal we could get him for a heck of a good deal dollar wise lol

I'm not too concerned about protecting Methot, or Anderson as some people have suggested. I think that the age contract, and injury history of Methot might scare away any potential interest. As for Anderson, I think that there are going to be other, more interesting names out there when the time comes. So, I don't think it will matter who the Sens leave unprotected in net.

I would prefer protecting Pageau over MacArthur. I like MacArthur, and I'm hopeful he can return and be effective. But you can't ignore his injury situation, and you have to recognize that he is at an age where regression will happen. The Sens should be able to hold onto their main core, which means the expansion draft will not be much of a factor for their line up.

Just realized Bobby Ryan has a modified NMC. There goes my hope to dangle him and get out of that awful contract.

That said, losing Methot is not the end of the world at all.

Most teams are going to lose a better player than that.

Ryan is hitting 30 in March. When he's 30.5 years old he begins the last 5 years @7.25 cap hit. The team they would be trading to would have to meet the following criteria:

1) Have the cap space to accommodate the cap hit while still contend
2) Likely be a contender (or a desperate city that wants to sell tickets)
3) Team has to give back a legit top 6 winger.
4) Ryan has to agree to waive his NMC

Everything else aside, Bobby just lost his mom so all my thoughts are with him. From an organization, you can't trade him this year unless it REALLY makes sense, otherwise that's not a respectable move.

Let's see what Boucher and the team can do this year; Brassard could fit perfectly with Hoffman and Ryan

Erm, why are we protecting Curtis Lazar?
- sgoodwin

Lazar is a solid 2-way forward and he's just a kid. He should/would have been sent to BINGO to mature and develop that offensive game he had in junior. That offensive game is there and I think he can hit something like 16g, 35pts+. Look at Dustin Brown #s..... that's the hope. Otherwise he becomes a solid 3rd liner that can jump up in top 6 to accent the offensive players.

I would bet if Hoffman is resigned he's getting either a 5 or 6 year team.........and the cap hit will have to fall somewhere between 5-6m. Therefore likely around a $30M contract. I'm guessing 33.9m

Brayden Schenn gets just over $5M. Gotta think that Hoffman doesn't see too much more than that. Schenn is younger, larger ( size not height ) , plays center ( which tends to get higher pay ), and known as a solid two way player. He doesn't quite have the same scoring touch as Hoffman, but over the past two years Hoffman just has 1 more point than Schenn. Schenn has seen more NHL action, but Hoffman has the goals. I think they are pretty close in contract value...

The real question mark would be the 7th forward, as you'd have Lazar, MacArthur, and possibly even Smith in the fray (if he's extended). If the goaltending situation remains as-is, then protecting Anderson is a relative no-brainer because Hammond is entirely replaceable - but I'd suggest that the lead-up to the expansion draft would actually be a perfect time for the Senators to go after a new goaltender.
