Or package Schenn with a prospect or two and get a real first line winger.

I don't see him as a core guy. If he can do what he did over the last 4 months of 2015-16 for 82 games, then my opinion would change. Until he does that, I see a long term, big money deal as a risk

I'd be cool with that.

yup, 1.25 million per. At that price, he's a very good pick up.

There are a couple of inaccuracies here. First, it is not an either or decision for the arbitrator. Her can choose whatever number he wants, and almost always picks very close to the middle. Second, Schenn does not submit years. That is entirely up to the flyers, and is decided on before numbers are submitted.

I hope he get signed at a two year deal under 5 million a year. He still has a lot to prove and in my mind he and Coots are as important although for different reasons.

When Hexy took controls I was excited that we'd likely be taking harder stances on contract extensions. This plays into it. No doubt in my mind if holmer was here he'd be inked to 5+ years near 6 mil. Part of why the players in the league love to "play" for the flyers

The problem with trading Schenn is you need a lot of what he brings to the table in the return. We would be looking for a big LW with grit that can score. He scratching at that right now and could be that moving forward. Kid is still young and has much more growth. I hope he signs a 4 or 5 year deal around 5M.

Now bring me some Vessey!

You are right about the term. Since the Flyers indicated in the filing that they want a 2 year term, any award Schenn gets would be a two year deal.

Boomers issue wasn't signing good players really. It was signing players who should be making league minimum to really big deals.

But yeah. The two year choice tells be they are happy with having Schenn play out his two remaining years here, our are happy with paying a market value AAV if he continues to produce

The term doesn't seem unreasonable from both sides but how can neither side come to an agreement when one is asking for 5.5 million and the other is offering 4.25 million? I don't think there is anything wrong with giving the kid a short term 4.9 one or two year deal.

I think tradibg Schenn would be a mistake. We should add to this team, not divide.

What specific player did Holmgren sign to a really big deal, that should've been making league minimum?

That's what I fear. If they went 5 years, $5.5mm I'd be very disappointed.
- Jsaquella

That's the market...I'm still Luke warm on the guy....some nights he's fantastic...others you don't know if he's played...if Flyers aren't sold on him yet they may never be...I'm sure it wouldn't ge that hard to move him. I guess we will see today.

Nothing really to do with the arbitration hearing, but I feel players should be paid based upon their value to the team, not what someone of similar skill on another team gets.

I understand that as a bargaining chip from Schenn's camp, but maybe that player A means more to team B than Schenn does to the Flyers. Not that I'm suggesting they don't want Schenn. Just another way look at negotiating a long term deal.

Again as I said in previous blogs, having this go to arbitration isn't the worst thing.

Andrew MacDonald. Not based on his market value, of course, but because of his skills.

Bill just wrote a blog about that, a few days ago. Might want to read it. How can a GM be expected to sign a player to a league minimum deal, when the player has UFA leverage, and would never sign it? Lacks common sense.

Just a bit? Or just inaccurate?
