Ottawa is a terrible city?
Dafuq? - Arctic_AARDVARK
overall, compared to the rest of North America? Not really.
but, in terms of NHL cities? It's certainly among the worst, yes. buffalo, Edmonton, and Winnpeg would probably be the worst. I'm not sure what Columbus is like. But Ottawa is not far behind those. It's a boring city without much to it, sitting in a snow belt.

Good restaurants
Decent pubs
Inexpensive and good golfing
Frozen Canal for Skating in the winter
Not far from cottage country
Close to some pretty good skiing
Bands stop in town more and more these days, with Montreal only 1.5 hours away
Unless you're rolling like Charlie Sheen, I don't really see what's boring
I take that back, let's say.... Evander Kane. There's actually a lot of blow in and around Ottawa |

Right?
I'd be less than stoked to go to..
Detroit
Winnipeg
Columbus
Carolina
As far as cities go... - Liger
Detroit is a crappy city for sure, that's true. The suburbs of Detroit are pretty awesome though.
Raleigh, Carolina is another city I know nothing about though. At the very least, they're above freezing all year though. |

I wish I could agree with you because I really hate the Sens, but what you're saying about the city of Ottawa is pretty (frank)ing ignorant. Almost like you've never been there. |

The problem with Holland is that he's not gritty or big enough to play a typical bottom 6 style. He's also not skilled enough to provide much in offence. So he's like a 3rd/4th line tweener who has durability issues. Signing Josh Leivo for 2 years at under $1M per will be a great signing. He has a much higher ceiling than Holland. - barthur89
Have to agree with this. If you have to chose between Holland and Leivo, who is a Leafs pick from our system.....you have to go with Leivo.
Holland may have tried and I was hoping he would be good but he just wasn't really good at anything. If he was at least more Matt Martin like in throwing hits or something but he didn't/couldn't even do that.
Buh bye Holland. |

I don't golf, and even then, if you're gonna compare the cities golf courses to the likes of North Carolina.... I think we know who comes out on the bottom end of that one. And NHLers aren't worried about the cost of a round of golf either. They can't even golf during the season anyway.
Frozen Canal for Skating in the winter

This means absolutely zero to an NHL player.
Not far from cottage country - TheMussel
These guys go back to their hometowns, and cottages near those, or places like PEI in the summers.
Bands stop in town more and more these days, with Montreal only 1.5 hours away

Like who? Name the top 5 bands touring this year, and see if they stop in Ottawa.
Proximity to a better city is hardly a selling point. |

JvR - Matthews - Nylander
Komarov - Kadri - Marner/Soshnikov
Leivo - Bozak - Marner/Brown
Martin - Laich - Hyman
Michalek
Rielly - Zaitsev
Gardiner - Carrick
Marincin - Corrado
Hunwick - Polak
One of Soshnikov or Brown are going to have to go down so Marner can start with the Leafs. Hyman fits that 4th line energy role perfectly and it's not worth exposing Leivo to waivers |

This is one of the dumbest posts I've ever read.
I'll only respond with this:
The idea that all NHL players want is a good time spoonfed to them and that their everyday lives outside of the rink don't resemble a normal person's life in any way is ridiculous.
And I'll maintain that the food and drink available in Ottawa is great.

There's a difference between what it is like to live in Ottawa as a civil servant raising a family or student and what it is like to live in Ottawa as a young multi-millionaire.
As a young millionaire, it's simply not on the top half of your list.
Sorry.

Nice French Quarter, in the East End. Didn't know anything about it, until I started dating a French girl, from Ottawa. Also a good place to see the Leafs play and see real Leafs fans in action. Nothing like dominating an arena, unlike the ACC that has too many sushi eaters!

The Works
But in all seriousness, variety is the spice of life, over the years I've had plenty of fun discovering food in Ottawa, and on average, the quality is higher than in Montreal or Toronto in my opinion. |
