I don't know that Tampa would need to buy out Filppula, two years at 5 mil could be an attractive option to an expansion team trying to reach cap floor. - Mr.Bobby
NMC. Would have to protect him. |

The good and the bad of having a bunch of very good young players. You think they are going to buyout Cally eventually? Not sure of his buyout numbers and if its feasible. - mdw7413
In a couple years I believe it is completely manageable. |

having to protect Callahan in next year's expansion draft is definitely biggest problem for Tampa |

If they hold off for 2 more years it is an easy decision IMO. |

Hence why a Filppula trade or buyout is very likely. |

the biggest reason the Rangers traded Cally in 1st place was because they wouldn't give him a NMC |

Yup. Some reason I thought it would be much higher.
Probably cause I have no (frank)ing clue how they calculate buyout numbers. |

Yeah but between the cap and expansion that is why I came up with the trade with Johnson and Namestnikov. As it stands now they would be required to protect Stamkos, Callahan, and Filppula. Leaving only 4 spots for Kucherov, Drouin, Palat, Killorn, Johnson, and Namestnikov.
Buying out Filppula and trading Johnson and Namestnikov for Miller and Lindberg gives them cap relief and allows protection of: Stamkos, Callahan, Kucherov, Palat, Drouin, Killorn, and Miller. |

I really think if the Rangers make another big move anytime soon it will be on the blueline, I could be wrong I think it will be the next thing they do
and, I think they probably think of themselves as in on Vesey as well |

Didn't realize he had a NMC, maybe he waives if threatened with a buyout. I know they did add a clause to the expansion drafts that players who waive are exempt from protection (thank god, because Ryane Clowe). |

As long as it's a straight contract it's easy to calculate. Two thirds the remaining salary spread out over twice the remaining term. Once you get into signing bonuses and front loaded contracts it gets stupid to try and calculate. |

The most recent report on Vesey indicated we aren't on his shortlist unfortunately. But I think that might've been speculation. |

I don't think anyone really knows, but no matter what I think the Rangers think of themselves as in on it until he actually goes somewhere else |
