As someone who we all know is not over the top crazy about Kreider and the way he played last year, I REALLY Like this deal, especially the last two years, if he never improves and is still scoring 20-25 goals come that time, even at $4MM/year he becomes attractive trade bait. If he is putting up close to 30 like his potential seems to be, then he is a STEAL in those last two years. The Rangers now have 4 years at a reasonable price to find out who the real Chris Kreider is right trough his prime years.

Repost from last thread...me and Pete were pretty accurate with our 4 years 18 million dollar predictions - TPC
Although Kreider is a good and speedy player, its good on the rangers to not pay north of 5 million. He's not nearly as productive as many other NHL players earning a similar salary this offseason. But good deal for a good depth player.
If you could do Palmieri for Stamkos straight up, you definitely would... - evitageN
Stamkos is a better player, yes, but for a team like NJ an 8.5mil cap hit like Stamkos makes no sense. You are getting 60-70pt production out of Palmieri I am assuming while playing with Taylor Hall since he got 57 playing with garbage this past year. Why pay double the cap hit for Stamkos who will maybe get 10 more points than him if he stays healthy? I'm not questioning who is the better player, I am saying for the money Palmieri is a no brainer for a team like NJ. So yes, I would still take Palmieri over Stamkos.

Speaking of overpayment....

Its not what I want. Its what I think it will be.
If Stepan got 3 mill at his bridge, I don't think the Rangers would mind spending a million less for their 3rd line center. Also the Rangers are in a bit of a pickle at the center position with Moore gone and Lindberg out. Hayes and his agent will also use that to their advantage

im surprised a team like TOR or PHO would not be interested in Girardi.. good vet with experience and great locker room guy... I agree, one of those 2 need to be moved in order to get Shatty... I do not want to see Nash moved to get a Dman... we already have too many as it is. - richardson30
Any possibility Gorton doesn't spend to the cap ceiling and we aren't strapped to start the season? - Fenrir
after all the fumbling between NY and Hartford last year to save dollars by the day Im thinking they want the flexibility throughout the year. I have no problem with starting the year the way the team looks now. fingers crossed with a healthy long offseason and hopefully sheltered minutes Girardi will bounce back a bit
Per Aaron Ward, the Rangers and Chris Kreider reached an agreement at about 9:30 this morning of a four-year deal with a $4.625 million AAV, avoiding arbitration.
Larry Brooks had reported the other day the Rangers had offered Kreider $4.75 mil on a 4-5 deal, while Kreider reportedly asked for $5.25 mil per season. What we get is a compromise on all sides
Wait...Rangers offered $4.75 million and the Kreider wanted $5.25. And they compromised at $4.625? Shouldn't a compromise had fallen somewhere between the 2 price points?

I'm imagining that the negotiations went something like this:

Stamkos can play center. A move like Palmieri plus for Stamkos would let the Devils move Zajac to 3C where he belongs and Zacha to wing. Plus you know the whole 45-55 goal potential Stamkos has and all.
