Whatever happens with Schenn, I can sleep at night without worrying about waking up to 7 years 45 million. Thank you Hexy

I think a lot of the kids who come up early and bust probably would have done so anyway. Many of the oft circulated names had big flaws, even for top kiddos. And many of them were put into terrible environments to boot.
- Mononoke

Yeah, Sbisa was probably a bust regardless... he didn't seem to have enough hockey sense at either end. Think his 'NHL-ready'-ness also influenced where he got picked... such a mistake that is.

The thing that 18/19 yo's who survive and thrive all seem to have in common is preternatural hockey sense... J.Will, Couturier, Gagne, etc. The body has time to catch up if the mind can stay ahead of the game.

Probably because the articles refer to him by his first name whereas the Flyers don't so perhaps the connection is lost.

Was that case ever resolved?

you wouldnt trade him for zibanejad cause it doesnt solve top 9 scoring depth, but youd trade him for tanev cause it solves what exactly? the defense thats about to change soon anyway

I wouldn't trade him for Zibanejad because it's a lateral move for a player that may be more a winger than a center, who can score but isn't that great all-around. I tihnk better could be had. Trading Schenn for a top pairing d man, who is a young, elite defensive RHD man, is not a lateral move. We have prospects, nothing more. I believe in them, but they probably won't all pan out, and should the need arise, one can be traded for a forward. In terms of pure value, yes, Schenn for Tanev is better than for Zibanejad. It's simply about maximizing value -- I'd explore a forward trade as well.

I think Tanev is an excellent defender, but doesn't bring the offense to be truly considered a top pairing dman. I understand maximizing value in a trade, but I don't think its one that makes the Flyers better. Could I get behind that type of trade? Certainly. It is by no means JVR for Luke Schenn

Don't know enough about Tanev to dispute your claim but what criteria are you using to describe him as elite?

I'd have my concerns considering he hasn't stayed healthy or played 1 full NHL season for one reason or another.

He won't put up a ton of points, but he drives play too besides being a "shutdown" type. I'm sure his scoring is clouded a bit by Vancouver being one of the worst scoring teams in the league. But he's a top pair guy like Hjalmarsson is a top pair guy. Like PSG said, explore explore explore (aka Kucherov). But in my book, Tanev is the perfect #2 type partner. Would I prefer a forward swap? Probably. I just saw the article and threw his name out there. But, like I said, a d prospect can be traded for a forward too. Like Stamkos.

So he's a better person than Michael Vick?

That's like saying he's a better person than Ray "I murdered someone and tampered with evidence then rolled on my friends so I could get off the hook" Lewis, or his buddy Ray "I punched my wife in the face then dragged her unconscious body around by the hair" Rice.
