Couple Point's I would like to make this morning.

1. Tanev is a legit first pairing right side defence, not a franchise D but a top 30 D in the league. Not something you trade unless you have a pressing need for something else.

2. Bo Horvat proved last season that he can be a good 2C or more in the years to come.

3. JB has done a good job of trading and picking up that middle age group that Van was missing from years of bad drafting. It is now time to let the draft picks develop in the minors. No more trading the prospects unless we start to have a real abundance of them and it becomes a problem. I'd rather have a detroit problem over a previous Van problem.

4. Van should probably go into the season seeing what they have as of right now. If down the road a trade needs to be done, do it then.

5. I'm going to give WD 30 games .500 or above he stays, any less he goes.

6. Some guy mentioned Van should trade for Vladislav Namestnikov. A name I know but not someone I would see associated with the canucks before.

A good post, I agree with all your points.

The only hiccup I see is the pressing need part. The Canucks arent (or at the very least shouldnt be) a desperate organization: they arent contending, nor have they sucked nor drafted top 5 for many years. There really shouldnt be any pressing needs but thats really perception based. A lot dont think there is a 1C in the lineup or prospect pool, how quickly do you need to fill that void and have that player NHL ready to make a legit run in the future? D and G take longer to develop, so I like the Juolevi pick, but thats where I begin to wonder about the Edler/Tanev's and what role they would be in when the team's youth is really ready to take over in the post-Sedin era

1) Tanev is an excellent 3/4 guy on a good team, much like Hjalmarsson is in Chicago behind Keith & Seabrook.

2) I think Horvat is already better than Sutter, thus he should be the Canucks second line center while Sutter rightfully takes the harder defensive assignments.

3) Agree!

4) Just continue to grow the kids.

5) Desjardins has to be a better coach or he should be let go. Full stop! Botchford actually had a good article this morning about goal differential, if they don't tighten that up to at least even they don't have a chance to make the playoffs n the West.

It's like clockwork round here.

Wake up, have breakfast, fire up the hub, have a shower, open the Canucks' blog and get my Leafs fix.

At least it's Leafs 24x7 in here. MiB's blog can range from food too mocking Glucky's eyebrows, to Bluejays to consistency of poo to US politics.

How do you guys plan to protect Marner from anybody other than Gaudreau and Nylanders daily manicures/ pedicures ? Is Martin enough of a deterrent ? We can offer you Dorset for Reilly if that works?

I think they will just let them get run over by the scary teams in the East.

I look at some of the rough teams that did well this year in the East like Pittsburgh, Florida, Islanders, Philadelphia, Tampa and Detroit and i get worried.

Tough learning curve for the kids for sure.

Looks like they'll have very short careers.

Matthews will be fine but princess Nylander will be back in the SEL by January. Marner was simply a product of Tkachuks success last year so he will be back with London for a few years.

Matthews is the biggest bust of them all. He's the biggest concern.

The other two at least have the excuse of being the only players under 6"4 to have ever made the NHL

Leafs are going to be terrible this year. I think they fight it out for last place with Arizona. As a fan, are you ok with another finish near the bottom or do you want them to get more serious about trying to be competitive?

He is from Scotsdale...when is the last time an Arizona born player had an impact? exactly, he will suck and ruin the locker room.

Player's hate having to stay in a hotel between practice and games apparently. Feels like they play 82 road games

I'm fine with them finishing 30th as long as the young guys who matter going forward shows signs of promise and get an understanding of Mike's systems and what is required from them. Trade off all impending UFAS for picks at the deadline. Hopefully grab Liljegren or Foote at the draft.
