This whole arena thing is becoming a sh**show. As long as they stay on geographical LI, I don't care where they play. But lets get some certainty with this already. - Jethro09
I agree. Let's get this wrapped up one way or the other already. A new building in Queens has many positives and would piss off the LI politicians.
Who cares if I been to the Barclay center or not. That makes no difference. If these guys are going to whine and cry over a parking space then who needs ya. There are kids out there who never make it to the NHL and I am sure if they had a chance they would not cry and be like nope I wont take this chance cause I cant park my toy in a parking spot. It is comical - kasperrko

So what exactly is the beef with the Barclays Arena and the "fan experience?"
I watched a game there in February. I have to admit that my expectations were extremely low - as a douchebag Leafs fan, I was eager to laugh my ass off at how bad the arena was.
It really wasn't that bad.
The location was great - next to a subway stop.
Yeah, the clock over the blueline was weird - but didn't affect my enjoyment.
Ditto for the bad seats at one end - we didn't sit there.
My only criticism was the concession stands were horribly lined up - they need to do a better job of moving people through them quickly.
So what demands are the Islanders making of the Barclays Center?

The ice quality is abhorrent, that's like a big point of contention. I gather, and this is just my interpretation, that this is more of the Islanders/Barclays management not getting along then literally the players vs. the Barclays.
The arena is fine for watching hockey, most of the stuff you mentioned as not being a big deal isn't and it gets blown out of proportion. That said, there is obviously some sort of strain going on.
Ideally, I'd love to see them have a brand new arena that's custom built for them. Queens is much more easily accessible by car than Brooklyn is and probably slightly less accessible by train, but still not a difficult trip. Barclays is manageable, but having a brand new arena that is designed specifically for hockey would be the best scenario possible.

this is a fair assessment. the bad seats are bad, but the ones that aren't are fine. it's a beautiful building, it's way more spacious, and you don't have to choose between missing half the game or developing kidney stones.

That was my favorite part, to be honest. I could go take a piss between periods, get a beer, and be back in my seat with time to spare.
If I did that at the Coli I would have been back in my seat with about 5 minutes to spare...until the end of the period.

Yeah, this caught my eye in the Bloomberg article:
"As part of the Barclays lease, the Islanders in an unusual move agreed to surrender control of the team’s business operations, the New York Post reported. In exchange, Barclays Center agreed to pay the team an average of $53.5 million a year."
That's a recipe for disaster.
I'd love to know the complete financial arrangement between the team and the arena - does the $53.5 million mean that the Islanders don't get any ticket revenues?

I missed Tavares' OT goal 15 seconds in against WSH in last year's playoffs because I was still stuck on a line to piss in the port-a-potties outside in the "beer garden".

Yeah it's certainly unusual.
I'm not sure what the exact arrangement is of how things are hacked up between the two parties.

By the way I was thinking if Donald Trump gets in office we might not have to worry about Grabo or Kulemin and he will ship them off back to Russia - kasperrko
Hmmm.....that could affect my vote. Someone needs to check the CBA to make sure that gets us cap relief.
