Interesting question here. Is Schneider still the best player on the team ? I think he still is but either way I love having two elite players now It's been a while !!!

the trade was bad yes. But the Oil needed a change. Tired of seeing the same thing every year. The oilers are bigger and better now. Taylor had the oilers best D on the ice at all times which wasnt much. But much better than what the rest of the team had to work with. so he had support more than his counter parts. We now have a stay at home d man who can move the puck and can win the battles on the boards. we have enough Offence, time to get the D we need
- Trevormac902

We have the offense we need?

The Oilers were 26th in goals last year. And we just traded away our best 5 on 5 forward. I've said many times I'd be ok with Hall going for the right player. Larsson is not even close.

I understand that but if you spend most of your time in your own end because you dont have support to move the puck and win battles than your offence cant produce.

and I have said from day one the trade is bad!! no doubt. but its done. So lets look forward and look at positives. Larsson is a big guy who can skate major minutes as a stay at home d man. a great lead passer from our zone and a great size to slow any teams forwaRDS FROM SKATING HARD TO THE BOARDS.cap lock sorry no dramaticts intended sorry. but seriously look at the team size now. we play in the west and we are finally in the same catagorie as the rest

You have a bunch of forwards who don't play worth a poop in your own end and a bunch of D who play too passive as a result.

when you have forwaRDS THAT HAVE TO PICK UP ON D MORE THAN ENY OTHER OTHER TEAM IN THE NHL than you have a problem. which everyone knows. the oil had the worst d forever and that has always been the talk with them, and now were here discussing about how the offence should be d men????? come on now its getting crazy now, no matter what the oil did theres always backlash. the team is different now so let the season work itself out this year

Schnieder had a better save%, GAA and more shut outs than Holtby. You know what type of team he was on and what he faced. It was truly world class goaltending. Hall is certainly a dynamic player and I think better then his numbers, but he hasn't produced a season close to what Cory has.

It could change but right now I don't think it's close.

Ya….that's exactly what I said

Well you said Hall could have been sucessful and won a cup like Seguin if the Oilers weren't inept at building a team.

Seguin had very little to do with winning a cup and is strictly a "me first player".

No they don't. I thought last year that the defense wasn't really as much of a problem as the lack of responsible forwards (especially depth guys.)

In Carolina's system the D have the green light to jump into the play on every shift and it's up to the forwards to cover for them. If the forwards don't, they get benched. Period.

So there is one less forward that "don't play worth a poop in your own end", and picked up a D to help fill the holes that the team had on D.

No matter how much iggy wants to cry more than a 2 year old this trade was the price the team had to pay to get a dman that won't be a question mark to fill Top pair duties,

Hall was fine, is the thing. Again, if you look at the blog, they scored more goals than they gave up when he was on the ice.

The problem is that they gave up way way way more goals against than they scored when he WASN'T on the ice.

Option A: Chiarelli is an idiot. A brainless moron.

Option B: Chia is an NHL Trojan horse who just gave a big boost to NJ viewership, but didn't really affect Oiler viewership. The NHL didn't want two top 5 players in Edmonton.

I don't put all my eggs in stats.

McDavid will be replacing Hall in every category very soon.

A better D help s close any gap between GF and GA.

Those aren't even in-depth stats... that's just simple goals for vs. goals against...

You know what else helps close that gap? Actually scoring goals, which is something the Oilers didn't do very well last year. They scored 3 more goals than the Hurricanes last year.

3.

And the Hurricanes offense was abysmal.

You know what Edm was missing last year?

Man games from influential players.

McDavid, Eberle, Nuge, Pouliot...to start on the Offense. Give the team the whole year with those players and see if they would have only scored 3 more than Carolina.

Now again give a full season with those players, lose Hall's production but only 30% to factor in Lucic. Then take Fayne off Top pair and add in a full Klef year with Larsson. Team goal diff will be much improved.

See, I don't think the trade was the worst thing since the Holocaust like some. Chia over paid but got a good, young, developing in the right direction but still room to develop more, RHD. It was not an equal trade, but it didn't leave the team worse.

If the defense you deploy aren't good then you should change you're system or style of play to make them better. Look at the defence we had for years and yet we where always in the top of the league for defensive categories. Trust me watching Salvador, Volchenkov, Zidlicky, Harrold and others play on a regular basis showed me you can have bad defenders and still play sound defence and limit chances.
