Well, for starters the Avs were idiots for retiring his # after only one season of play. And his point bout him being a passenger was more of a statement towards the team being stacked and was going to win with or without him. We all know he scored 59 points. It was a point of selling out for a win. He had no loyalty towards Boston or the fans and only cared bout the cup.

James, Do you think the Yotes should make a trade offer for Hoffman in Ottawa? Maybe trading Michael Stone, A prospect and a pick. Or something like that. So they can finally get a #1 center. My friend is a numbers guy, and swears this would be good for both teams. I'm not good with the numbers and analytics in hockey. I just watch and enjoy

Here's a snippet for you:

His team, the Boston Bruins, respected him enough that they couldn't bear the thought of Bourque ending his career without experiencing the elation of winning a Stanley Cup.

Twenty-one seasons with the Bruins began with the hope and dream of reaching the ultimate quest; two actually ending in the Stanley Cup Finals; but none ended in victory. "There were many times," he once said, "when I felt it just wasn't going to happen for me, that I was never going to experience the greatest feeling a hockey player can achieve."

So Bruins management did the unthinkable: knowing the Bruins did not have a legitimate chance to win it all in Bourque's 21st season, they traded him, less than a month before the playoffs, to the Colorado Avalanche.

That's actually embarrassing and cheapens all the legitimate Avalanche players who have had their number retired, past and future....

And I remember that stupid "Mission 16" hat he used to wear... Should have read "Passenger 77"

The NHL site has Hoffman as a center. But maybe they play him on the wing a lot.

He's a winger. I think the site is wrong. Solid player either way

The Hoff is a left winger. I hope the senators just sign him. Hes absolute dynamite. This shouldn't be a debate.

The demand will be high if he goes to market. I can see him getting a blue chipper, bottom half roster player and a first. If Arizona gave your first and that newly minted defenseman prospect of yours, i see that being enough. As it's likely a lottery pick.

Ottawa will not take on dollars. Stone is a decent player, sadly, we have plenty of those.

Good read here. I like Doan.

The Bourque winning the cup thing is good for him and fulfilling a life long dream and good for his former team in getting some assets to build for the future. The opposite of what Mats Sundin did for the Leafs

Bourque was a huge part of that cup winning team, that is not a technicality. Beau Bennet winning the cup this year after spending the whole season injured and only playing one game in the playoffs is a technicality. You could argue Bourque and his veteran presence and all world abilities put that team into the next level. Bourque is a top 5 dman to ever play, he deserved to know the feeling of winning a cup no matter where it was. He was very loyal to Boston and if not for Mario and the Penguins in 91 the Bruins could have very easily won the cup that year.

Dean Blundell is a pig of human, and not for stupid hockey comments about Doan. He's not an objective voice. He sold his soul years ago...

One has to wonder if Doan would have remained in the organization if the team was still in Winnipeg after all of these years. No offense, but living in Arizona has to be pretty damn appealing to a player.

Probably not

He lazes around Arizona collecting a paycheck with not a care in the world, winning, losing, or otherwise
