I wonder if I were to ask who everyone's least all time favorite Flyer is (rather than roster) because of course we all love everyone whoever played for us, right? I await the group gang up.

The reason you got ganged up on is you called a roster that was fun to watch and that overachieved and made the playoffs one of the worst. There were much worse teams that slogged through the season with no improvement and missed the playoffs.

As for my least favorite Flyer it's tough to choose one since I prefer to keep things positive. But I'll bite and say Both Carle and Coburn when they lost their all star partners made me want to scream. And any time Dan Carcillo or Zac Rinaldo took a stupid penalty I wanted them out of the lineup. Ryan White took a leap towards the get out of town with the comments after the bracelet incident.

I think you hit on the only 3 ive actually disliked watching on the ice...carcillo, rinaldo, white

i was happy when they traded grossmann, but he seemed like too cool of a person to hate watching and has scored one of the funniest goals in recent memory

In my opinion it wasn't fun to watch. There were a handful of players who were fun to watch. The Toronto Maples Leafs and Columbus Blue Jackets still have had stars over the years, it doesn't mean you have to like what they have to offer. The Devils won Cups playing a boring brand of hockey for years with only two or three guys being fun to watch.

Randy Jones was my least favorite player.

So we're clear, I'm talking to you, not getting upset with you.

I'll ask this. How many steps have we made in two seasons to get where we need to be? We went from inches away of making the playoffs to sqeezing in. We probably have the same results from a year ago if not for Ghost and Neuvirth. I think I just wanna gain momentum from here moving forward.

I totally understood that you weren't upset. My view of last season was the beginning was a drag and going to the games I knew would be tough but I understood there was a bright future so I'd have to deal with the bad to get to the good.

What I didn't know was we'd get the glimpse of the good around Christmas and that the glimpse would turn into a very fun ride with a wild building most nights after one player joined this team. Now think if one or two more in the near future add a similar spark. Man could this team (based around those stars) could be a very fun team instead of a fun team to watch. I really think it's a perspective thing. I had enough fun last season to change from a ten game plan to a full season plan.

Do you seriously not understand what it takes to be good? The way the Flyers used to be was entertaining but they always got beat by teams that were better constructed top to bottom. There is only one efficient, proven way to make a cup contender in this league right now, and it is what Hextall is doing. You're expecting them to build that and routinely be a top team in the NHL? Please point out how thats possible and what team does it.

The Flyers are about as close as it's getting with the young talent theyve acquired and the veterans they have in place

Our team last year overachieved. By overachieving we assert that the team wasn't as good as they finished.

The roster does suck toad feet, but it's getting better. Outside of Giroux, Voracek, Ghost, Simmonds, and our goalies our team is pretty far below average.

It wasn't the games that were exciting, because most of them were mind numbingly boring as (frank), rather it was the feeling of overachieving that was exciting.

I think the Flyers are getting harder and harder to watch year after year. Too much perimeter play and not enough driving to the net for my liking.

If you can't score, you crash the net. At least that is how we use to be. Now it's if you can't score, just pass the puck around until it eventually goes around the goalie.

This is how I feel. This is exactly, right here, how I feel. It doesn't make me less of a fan, it's just how I feel.

If you disagree with me, there are better ways of doing it. Calling me names, insulting my intelligence and making fun of me isn't the way to go. I'm just happy that someone took the time to meet me in the middle rather than claiming the state of the team is fine.

I heard they were changing their name to the Chicago Net Crashers this season because Kane and Panarin spend so much time in the blue paint.

Big Buff and Bryan Bickell only play minor roles. Just ask Chris Pronger.

FWIW, I think we'd all love to have a stacked Flyers team that was a serious Stanley Cup contender.

The trouble is, with the salary cap and nature of the sport, it's more difficult to sustain that sort of team long term.

The teams that have sustained and been consistent contenders and winners year in and out since 2009 are generally teams that either bottomed out and had lottery picks or are teams that did an outstanding job of drafting and developing their systems over time.

When Ron Hextall was named GM, he preached a plan of patience. He could have come in and gone scorched earth and traded away guys like Giroux, Voracek and Simmonds and done a full on rebuild. Instead he saw a solid core and is trying to build around it, remaining competitive while retooling.

Whether this approach will bear fruit is unknown. But Hextall came in with a stated plan and has followed it, pretty much to the T. If people don't like that, fine. But nobody can say they weren't told what the deal was going to be.

Personally I embrace it, because I think it's the best way to get to contender status and remain there for an extended period. Hexy could do what Holmgren did, dealing away multiple first rounders for established veterans. But we've seen how sustainable that turned out to be.

In just two years Hextall has turned a fairly barren system into one that is consistently ranked in the top 10 in the NHL. Even Ed Snider recognized this before his death. Snider knew that he might not live to see another Stanley Cup, but he still signed off on Hextall's plan. If that means a season or three of "boring" hockey, I can live with it.

Most of us are agreeing that the team was in bad shape but we knew it would need be dark times to become the perennial contender. So we accepted it and believe now is not the time for doom and gloom. We we see the future (Provorov, Sanheim, Morin, Konecny, and hopefully Rubtsov and Labarge) and see that this team should be better.

Laughton when moved to wing showed improvement. Cousins and his incessant yapping caused a little reminiscing to the days of Linesman or Acton which makes games fun.

The future is looking bright again. But it takes some pain to get there in a cap based league.

The steps that we've made towards becoming a contender are that we have totally restocked our farm system over the last few years with quality prospects like Konecny, Provorov, Sanheim, Morin, Aube-Kubel, Lyon, Sandstrom, Lindblom, Hagg, Myers, Rubtsov, Laberge, Hart and Allison.

Building by drafting and developing isn't always flashy or exciting, but, in a salary cap world, its the smart way to go. I know it's hard being patient, but I really think Hextall's plan is a smart one and I'm willing to wait for it to come to fruition.
