the problem with these beer fests and food fests is you can't find one that does both together well, as far as I'm aware.

Kitchener has an excellent Craftbeer and Ribfest, and haven't found one in Toronto that does anything similar.

Went to the beaches beer fest a few weeks ago and it was a bunch of people drinking 7 dollar glasses of wine and select pints, while being swarmed by seagulls

If you are going to do real estate investing, is renting not the best option?

get a house or two by Funshawe or Western, hire a property manage which costs next to nothing, and rent it to students. Property manager handles all the repairs and filling the place with students and you cover costs.

Minimal work, maximum profit.

If I had any sort of capital to get started, that's what I would do and wouldn't think twice

The interesting thing is you can do both. My family business did that - build, sell some, hold and rent the others. Rinse and repeat. We actually manage the rentals too though so it's quite a bit of work.

I'll have to check it out. Tough to find one that's worth your dollar.

Don't know if any of you have been to that Christmas Festival in the distillery district. They trap you in that collection of buildings in the freezing cold and overcharge you for a handful of Mill St. products... total rip off

What do you mean "say what you want"? Kitchener (well Waterloo) is the best city in Canada!....well #10 (moneysense.ca).

TO has these too... but the crowds are insane. I don't think they up the number of vendors to match the population

Oh for sure you would have a higher bottom line.

But a property manager usually asks for either 10% of gross rental income or half of one month, depending who you go with

I'd rather spend a couple hundred (out of the profits) to keep the place filled and not have the headache of 3am plumbing calls

When you say IT, do you mean support or bus dev?

Because from what I saw, the bus. dev side of IT is not for the lazy at all.

Support

They are trying to elevate me into a dev role, but don't want to increase my pay any.

Part of the reason why I'm moving to another company

True dat.

I saw a house up in penetaguishene for 150k, already broken into two units, one already rented for 1000/month.

Seems like a damned good investment, but I don't know anything about property management.

Quebec brewers are OK but I find they still tend to love sweet, strong, malty beers, which isn't really up my alley.

I'm still more impressed with the stuff coming out of Ontario these days.

I don't even (technically speaking) work for my family business anymore and I still deal with these type of calls all the time. It's definitely frustrating. I remember when I was 13 I had to go down to an apartment and get a squirrel out of one of our units that had 3 women living in it. They were smoking so I didn't mind, but that was one crazy squirrel

Our most difficult rental is a house on Cape Cod. It's rented by the week, kind of higher end so very needy people, full turnover in 3 hours on saturday
