It is pretty easy to figure out why Kessel is not on Team USA.

First ask yourself, which team finished last in the NHL standings. Perhaps it was the Leafs? Ask yourself where is the tournament being played? Now ask yourself how many players have been named to all the Teams that are Leaf properties. You will see that the league has purposely decided to pump the tires of the Leafs. Indeed the under 23 team is purely a public relations ploy to hype Toronto content.

Kessel is not a good fit for the NHL desire to boost nightmare HNIC ratings, No need to remind locals of the screw up that is called the Leafs. So, let's pretend it is a hand injury even though he was first left off the team long before there was any discussion of an injury.

Agreed and agreed. I actually hate that they are playing this thing anyways before the season, so I'm just as happy Kessel isn't playing.

For those saying it's the hand injury, that's fine and dandy, but it doesn't explain why he didn't get picked for the original roster, which came out during the playoffs and when no one outside of the Pens organization would have known about the hand issue.
