Go all in: max 8 years at $4.5M so he can walk away at 33 and someone else can overpay for a declining vet.
Considering what gets $4.5-$5M these days that would give the Rangers 3 bargain deals with McD, Zucc, and CK20. - Maskdman3
I don't think 8 years/$4.5 million per would be that crazy actually, if you can get over the fact to committing 8 years to a guy that can sometimes be flaky.

Reilly Smith, Vincent Trocheck, Filip Forsberg, Nathan MacKinnon, Mark Schiefele, and Mathieu Perreault all come to mind
I think Kreider is better than Smith and Perreault and has a longer track record than Trocheck. Forsberg, MacKinnon and Schiefele are all obviously better than Kreider but they're all making over $6M per on their extensions. So Kreider can say "if Schiefle is making 6.25M per year, I should be at least 5. - rangerdanger94

Yeah I've been on the anti-Kreider train for that very reason...and because I'm still struggling to cope with what constitutes a $4M player now days. Kreider drives me insane with his rollercoaster effort levels.
That said, if the front office feels like that is a coaching issue (because it's not just Kreider experiencing it) then I guess I would just have to suck it up and accept it. |

I think Kreider just needs to play his game and stop thinking or worrying about ref's, coaching, etc. If he can do that he will be much better. The problem is, I don't know if he can. |

I think Kreider is like Kelly from Married With Children. You put info in his head and it knocks out other info. Remember when he came in after the BC playoffs were done and he played great? Torts even said they aren't going to tell him anything just let him play.
Then the coaches get involved and start turning his brain into a pretzel. LetKreiderLoose# |

Per Larry Brooks' column in the NY Post today:
"The parties are in ongoing negotiations concerning a four- or five-year deal that would buy out No. 20’s first two or three years of unrestricted free agency. It is believed the Rangers are offering in the neighborhood of $4.75 million per with Kreider seeking approximately $5.25 million per." Split the difference and get it done? Sounds to be in line with what I had predicted. |
