Didn't read the comments, but how is the cap looking for next year which is more the question? If you extend Elliot I doubt you'll be calling him a cheap option??

I still believe MAF will end up a Flame which is a much more sensible option having a goalie locked in that is very good/elite (he has moments), with a term that suits your roster & is not that expensive.

I'd say getting Elliot is more short sighted than anything else. I really believe JR had no intention of trading MAF unless he was blown away with the proposal, & I doubt he will be held at knife point next season. Good goalies cost - whether it be in trade or cap (sometimes both - that's why they are good ).

Our cap situation is much better next year with Wideman, Engellund, Bollig and Smid coming off the books. Our only major free agents will be Bennett (who could very well get a bridge deal) and our goalies.

We'll have the option of resigning Elliott, going after a guy like MAF or going after Bishop in free agency or even bringing up Gillies if he is tearing up the AHL next year. We are not worried about our goaltending situation next summer, we are sitting exactly where we want to be

P.S
There's a good chance you guys will be begging for someone to give you the 2nd rounder you could have got from us at the draft. As the expansion draft draws nearer MAF's value will only decrease. Time will tell, but I bet JR will regret not trading MAF sooner (if there was even ever an offer on the table).
