What do you guys honestly think Jvr would cost? 1st round pick and a prospect?

I am thinking first round pick and one of our top D prospects just to start. Dude is legit RW.

He is too soft for my liking though.

Guess it would depend on which d prospect, Andersen would have to be off limits to me.

I kinda think Schillington as well. Really have no clue what the kid will become.

I tend to agree with you. Calgary is still a one line team. Give Bennett and Tkachuck a couple years to develop some chemistry and then there will hopefully be 3 lines that can be a threat.

Crazy how much the defence scoring at a ridiculous pace 2 years ago helped out.

- DuranDuran

Solid post. You are easily the most intelligent and realistic poster on the Flames thread. It's rather refreshing to not have to educate you on what is.

If the Leafs were smart they would try and target a young D Man around Dougies age with still a bunch of upside for JVR. Ryan Ellis is a player that I think would be great on another team in a couple years.

Oh (frank) yeah, but like a poster stated on the Oilers thread, what does Mashville need from us? Maybe Nuge?

the problem is that we cant give much credit for getting these goalies at such low cost cause they're only for 1 year....we hope they do well, but it will mean big raises next year and THAT will be the test on how frugal and penny pinching BT is

Yes good cheap goalies. Too bad they are only signed for one year each.

Saskabush is officially a source for trade rumours. EK is gonna be so pissed you have already broke more rumours than him!

I've always wondered about Brian Elliott. Is he really that good? The last time he played for a team that wasn't a powerhouse defensively, he was TERRIBLE. I've never liked him since. Always thought he benefited from a very strong St Louis team.

Maybe something kinda like Devan Dubnyk or Viktor Fasth

How you feel about the Lucic deal? I will hate it for the first 3 years. After that i think it's amazing!
- DuranDuran

I don't know, Lucic will will be 34 when he is done playing out this contract, I would think in 5-7yrs the cap should be considerably higher, I don't think it will be totally bad.

No need to get all in depth about 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th lines.
In my mind, it's all about depth on all 4 lines, like the Penguins.

JG-SM-Brouwer
? - Bennett - Tkachuk
Bouma - Backlund - Frolik
Bouma - Stajan - ?

Fill in ? with Chiasson, Vey, Ferland, Shink, and maybe some surprises from training camp: Jank, Poirier

I say give those top 3 lines somewhat equal minutes (not in the same job though). More offensive zone starts for Lines 1 and 2, more D starts, and PK for Lines 3 and 4. But line 3 arguably being more important than 2.

Ya I hear ya. Other guys that could be in the same boat but naturally play RW are Dustin Brown, Bobby Ryan or Ryan Callahan. Ryan's contract is absolute insanity but could be a really cheap add. Ottawa is always penny pinching and he would fill a huge need on the right side of out top 6. However I don't think there is a deal to be made with his contract/history with Burke.

However for conversation sake, a deal might look like Wideman, Bouma, the option to swap 1st rounders in Calgary's favour for Foligno with 500K retained annually.

CBJ doesn't need D let alone an anchor.
They need to dump salary.

Maybe the guy just needed a little bit of defense around him to boost his confidence or maybe it helped having a new goalie coach ...he could end up being terrible again but for the price it should be an upgrade over last year and is worth it

If the jackets can get rid of more NMC guys it helps them in the long run ...you throw out crazy ideas for trade proposals every day that would never happen yet you can shoot down much less crazy proposals like this

Didn't read the comments, but how is the cap looking for next year which is more the question? If you extend Elliot I doubt you'll be calling him a cheap option??

I still believe MAF will end up a Flame which is a much more sensible option having a goalie locked in that is very good/elite (he has moments), with a term that suits your roster & is not that expensive.

I'd say getting Elliot is more short sighted than anything else. I really believe JR had no intention of trading MAF unless he was blown away with the proposal, & I doubt he will be held at knife point next season. Good goalies cost - whether it be in trade or cap (sometimes both - that's why they are good ).

We also have yet to see how GG's systems will work. Under Hartley, it was pretty entertaining hockey because you always had a Dman jumping into the rush, but needed depended on your goalies to bail you out, last year they did not.

MAF is a very good goalie, if he could come through in playoffs he would be great. Right now his stock is low. They did not have to trade him, but he is a pretty damn expensive backup.

BT will wait and see how both of these goalies perform. If 1 does really well under our new systems, he'll get signed. You certInly like to talk up Fleury but given the situation, expansion and with Fleury having the NMC and having to be protected thus exposing Murray, I really doubt anyone makes an offer that will "blow JR away." Certainly not BT. I think you mY be disappointed come next summer.

True, and all Lucic has to do is go infront of the net and McDavis will do the rest.
