Yep, and if it becomes apparent he wont sign a workable extension, then trade him before the midnight hour to try and get close to fair value in return. But, again, who scores the goals outside of 19+88 if 72 is moved? - EnzoD
And trade his rights to a team similar to the Blue Jackets. If you are Bowman you have to keep doing that to let players know the grass is not always greener on the other side. He did to Saad...but not to Shaw in sending him to Canadians. He should have dumped Shaw on Carolina or Arizona or some team that sucks and does not draw many people.

Any chance the Hawks take a flyer on Peter Holland. Know he has had injury issues in the past. Panik was a nice find from the Leafs. Anyone know more about him? - bhawks2241
Holland is an RFA and an offer sheet is unlikely. Trade? Perhaps.
But in the long term does it make sense to sign a 20-30 point NHLer instead of giving a rookie a chance? Holland is decent, but he ultimately won't make a significant contribution. I'd rather take a chance on Hartman, McNeill or Lundberg in hopes they can be more than Holland. It's not certain they will, but it's worth the risk.
Edit: I saw that Holland was put on waivers. I would still pass. |

I like passion over restraint.
May Dennis Green rest in Peace.
He came and spoke at our Tilden HS athletic awards dinner while he was coaching at Northwestern and the students were thrilled to see a smart relatable FB guy in person.
He was exactly what they thought be would be:

I watched him in junior and he was one of those guys that had the size, and good balance, and did every facet in junior well, but never really excelled in improving pass being a mediocre pro.
Yeah, I agree that you stay home and see what Lundberg can bring, and you didn't draft and develop players to go out on the limb fro a guy who couldn't stick with other teams , who they felt was expendable, for what ever reason.

Oddly, I don't agree. I agree with their careers being shorter....but many of them make in one year what the common worker makes in a lifetime. Where the common worker has to almost always take the highest pay just to make ends meet....the multi-million dollar per year athlete can ask himself..."I can make 6.0 million per year playing for the Blue Jackets....or make 5.0 million per year playing for a championship caliber team who I have won twice with and probably will continue to win with over the next 4-5 years". I'm not trying to pick on Saad....but at some point, in those circumstances, where you are going to be financially comfortable for life....why not try to be as happy as you can possibly be outside the money? - onehundredlevel
Ok, that's fair. Happiness is important, along with kids, expenses, bills, mortgages etc. I just feel that as an employee, that you should maximize your chances to make as much money as possible for the future. I'll agree that what some athletes make is absolutely disgusting (NBA players e.g.) and some aren't happy with $15M +. And compared to some other professions, they have no room to complain. But I guess I just don't know the business side of some things. Good perspective though. |

Looks like Kris Versteeg's playing career is taking a different path. He's expected to sign with Bern in Swiss League this wknd. |

Weird...
Maybe he's just tired of bouncing around or there there's no interest in him at anymore at the NHL level? |

He's better than a fringe NHLer but not the type of guy you build around. He'd likely get a $1 million deal with an NHL team at best. With a new family I'm surprised he'd want to go to Europe. |

I'm seriously considering switching over and becoming a Cubs fan.

Late Richards backstory:
Hawks def gave him a lowball offer, he chose to retire instead.
Hawks will go hard after Vesey. Stay tuned. - John Jaeckel
The Richards offer is good news so at least stan isn't over offerings now.

Based on you and Wiz he sounds like a McNeil type? Does everything well but does not excel at anything and has a big body he doesn't use enough. If that is the case makes sense to stay in house. |

Why is it disgusting?
If ABC/ESPN and Turner are willing to pay almost $3BILLION per year for national TV rights - why is it disgusting that the players should get a big piece of it?
I agree with you that players need to maximize their earnings - it's a short career without even bringing up that each player in any pro sport is only one bad hit away from prematurely ending it.
If a player wants to go for the dough, that's fine with me. |

My point is that compared to some other professions, say... A MLB pitcher who steps foot on the mound makes $500K just for that game (just an example) compared to a pediatric surgeon who saves lives, I think the one who saves a life deserves more money. And plus, I have to admit, that I have a disdain for many NBA players both past and present. Not a fan of that league at all.
And hell I agree that'd I want a piece of that. Just one of the many business things I can't really wrap my head around altogether.
EDIT: I digress on this issue. |

Holland has produced at .41 pts per game the last 2 years he might be a better option at 4th line Center then Moose. I think someone claims him IMO. |
