With post cards that begin from Philadelphia and each day get progressively closer and closer to Tampa Bay.

Smart teams lock up players early in order to save money later. If a player is truly valuable enough, he's likely going to get a Couturier type contract.

If some team wants to overpay one of my young players, I'll just take the compensation.

- PhillySportsGuy

Take the compensation and start the process of drafting and developing a player all over again. You drafted a player, developed him using patience, and just when the player is starting to come into his own and becoming a very good NHL player in his prime, you take the compensation and start over again, with no guarantee that the compensation, ever amounts to anything.

sort of like when you're in a strip club and you've spent hundreds on one girl hoping to get a little extra, when all the sudden best in class shows up. do you leave the girl youve spent so much time and money on and risk starting over with the new hot girl, only to be down even more money wise? or do you take what you have, hope its as good as the hot girl, and guarantee urself u have a time?

What else were you going to do if your team was in a cap crunch?

Arguing a hypothetical scenario with literally hundreds of variables with MJL sounds fun. I'll meet up with you guys later.

There's tough choices for some teams. I don't think it's a slam dunk to just state you'll take the compensation. That could wind up being squat.

I forgot about that.

I know Hextall is against the 9 game thing but would you keep Konecny if he has a great camp and see what happens?

Raffl - Giroux - Voracek
Konecny - Couturier- Simmonds
Laughton - Cousins - Weise
Read - Gordon - Bellemare

Unless Leier has a great camp or maybe someone like Abul-Kabel really surprises.

Are you certain Konecny makes the roster?

Did Del Zotto make it to arbitration after his first year with the Flyers? Personally I don't care if Schenn goes to arbitration. Worst case we get him at one more year at a decent price. I don't see him getting rewarded something crazy.

Other than Schenn, I can't ever remember a Flyers top 6/top 4 player ever having trouble re-signing.

Tampa is in this situation because they have so much young talent. I just don't understand why GMs protect other GMs like this.

- PhillySportsGuy

Clarke I believed went to Quebec to meet Gagne after his first 40 plus goal season to get him signed mid summer. I could swear LeClair was one of the first players ever to win his hearing? I remember it as huge news.

Same. Our best chance at getting him signed to a deal close to what he's worth is through arbitration.

Take the 1 or 2 year arbitration deal and trade him.

If Panotchs scuttlebutt is remotely accurate I would say the team is offering 4.75 and Schenn asking for 6.5
