If Yzerman doesn't trade Kucherov for Schenn+2nd, Hexy is going to offer sheet him. If they match that offer sheet, Hexy is just going to offer sheet Palat or Drouin next year. Your world will be a nightmare, Stevie. And Ronald J. Hextall will be its harbinger. - Mononoke
If I was Hextall i would just keep mailing Yzerman blank offer sheets. Not email, but actual physical mail...haunt his dreams |

This is so frustrating just watching Kucherov sit out there. Yzerman will get some sweetheart deal and everyone will wonder how he did it. It's because GMs are (frank)ing cowards. - PhillySportsGuy

I'd have Dave Brown hand deliver them, cracking his knuckles as he tosses em on Yzerman's desk.

With post cards that begin from Philadelphia and each day get progressively closer and closer to Tampa Bay. |

Probably just quibbling over the year to year breakdown and bonus structure. - BiggE
I get the feeling the Flyers will be perfectly happy with any 1 year deal in arbitration. I bet they won't even argue the case much and just concede. Schenn's camp probably wants a long-term deal done |

So, Phil Kessel took the Cup to the Toronto Hospital for Sick Children.
I eagerly await Steve Simmons's article criticizing him for not taking the Cup to the Toronto Hospital for Healthy Children. - Mononoke

Cowards, or just smart? Start offer sheeting players, and the next time you have a cap crunch, and have a good player that you need to sign, see what happens. It shouldn't be that way, but that's the way it is. |

Let's be real. He'd match. Even $7.5x7, he'd match. It's next year's crop with Palat, Johnson, Drouin that then becomes ripe for the picking. Then, with that threat in place, it is Trayden's time to shine! |

Yeah lets worry about building a team worth getting in a cap crunch for before we start worrying about losing our players |

I'm sure he would match, but it would force his hand to do things he wouldn't want to do.
He would either need to take away from their depth or trade Bishop for less than he's worth.
This is one of the 3 best teams in the east and will be for a number of years. Not sure why you wouldn't want to force a scenario like that. |

I sometimes feel like compensation is sometimes as big of a reason as "rocking the boat" is when it comes to offer sheeting players. Really depends on which player we are talking about I guess |

Smart teams lock up players early in order to save money later. If a player is truly valuable enough, he's likely going to get a Couturier type contract.
If some team wants to overpay one of my young players, I'll just take the compensation. |

Don't let your stars go to arbitration. I understand the retaliatory tactics that some GMs fear. But sign your core RFAs early and you don't have to worry about this. Have money allocated for them instead of for moronic signings like Callahan. |

Yeah, but an offer sheet forces them to make a decision on him within the next 10 days. Every team will know this and the offers won't be as strong. |

Other than Schenn, I can't ever remember a Flyers top 6/top 4 player ever having trouble re-signing.
Tampa is in this situation because they have so much young talent. I just don't understand why GMs protect other GMs like this. |

Gagne was an almost annual late signee, but never got to arbitration.
LeClair did get to arbitration one year |
