It's very possible considering he's a UFA next summer
I wonder if the Rangers will target Hudlsr with their free cap space now. We had plenty of room to sign Kreider and Hayes but now we'll have like 5 or 6M free after their deals. |

I still think we gotta be smart. Just because we have some more cap room doesn't mean just to throw it at the first UFA target they see. |

after market thoughts..Now
1st NYR must believe Step has another level in his game
to win in NHL must have Dominant Center !!!
precursor to trade is next move....
biggest cause its where we find one of the next top centers in the NHL
Draistl ? go aorund NHL & find who is on the cusp of steppin up to next level ?
we have vet D & kreids -nash to make over the top move
Z bad is in contract yr .. he is comin in guns blazin & freed up to play a style
he will flourish in .....
next move is the one that makes next season a possible great one....
need Big up & coming center ? or is hayes gonna step up to next level?
i say make a another big move & clear out dead wood krieds & aging but talented
Nash & expensive....I DK who is our guy ...no idea bout Z BAd but i like it
both teams got what they need ..Ott has guy who has been there (p.o.'s)
we have an inconsistentguy up to now who can find his future here....

I still think the Rangers think of themselves in on Vesey, if they win the Vesey sweeps there certainly is no need for Hudler |

Considering the Rangers just traded for another top 6 center can we drop the Leon Draisitl stuff? He will never be a Ranger |

I'm excited to see this kid in a Rangers uniform. Not a bad trade at all, although, I will definitely miss Brassard. The guy was a very good Ranger, an emotional guy who can be clutch. Definitely a fan favorite and one of the least likely guys that fans complained about. Sens get a good player and good club guy. Hoping MZ can continue to improve and be a big part of this teams offense. Always liked Swedish players...they're tough and very skilled. Hopefully he's got some of that. Wishing Brass well in Ottawa |

I definitely believe in the theory that the trade was worked out sometime ago and they were waiting until July 15th passed so the Rangers would pay the 2 million bonus - jimbro83
I'm guessing Mika knew about this deal for some time, and chose to stay and train with a pro coach instead of taking the summer 'off' in Sweden. He has turned up for camp in 'bad' shape every year. Got a feeling his best season is coming up |

It's also a contract year...might have nothing to do with the Rangers |

I think the Sens management actually coerced him into staying and training this summer |

there are a few idiots who blast zibby and criticize his game, but those are also the same idiots who shredded alfredsson when he left, who always bad mouthed spezza's game, and who think Ottawa will be a better team if they trade Hoffman.
....
the fact that we had to pay a 2nd rd pick to get an older, and slightly better version of zibby is laughable IMO. - sensarmy_11
There are more than a few people who blast Zibby in this fanbase. In fact, if you watched the games this season both Ferraro and McClennan ripped into him constantly. 'He has to make a stronger play, there' was the common refrain.
The guys on the TSN 1200 constantly question his desire as well. Shawn Simpson just said this morning that it was a good thing the Sens got rid of him now because if he has one bad season, the return will not be as great. I don't agree with him that next season will be bad because it's a contract year, but you never know.
It's no secret that he came to camp out of shape twice. Once, they even started him down in the minors because of it (and he actually had his best season to date after that).
I'm not pulling my negativity toward him out of left field and I'm hardly the only one with that opinion.
To compare an opinion about Zibby struggling and lacking compete level to ripping into Alfie (our best ever player) or Hoffman (our current top goal scorer) is absolutely ridiculous. The people who rip into Zibby watch the games.
I honestly do believe Mika has all the tools to be a great power forward. But as I said before, I question his drive. Over the past three seasons, his line mates have gotten better, he's been given more PP time (played in the first unit basically all of last season) and his production has stalled. He has also visibly started to shy away from contact.
As for the trade itself.. it would have been a good deal if it was player for player. The 2nd round pick was probably to compensate for the Rangers picking up the 2M bonus. Cheap Eugene rears his ugly head again. |
