IF and I know it's a big IF, we get Vessey some how, do you play 2 rookies with Hayes or drop either him or Buch into the top 6 to break them up? |

The Rangers have something against players who produce up to their contracts. I will never criticize team for getting younger and cheaper and gaining a pick. But Big Game Ricky, the orange cone twins Girardi and Staal and Stephan at 6.5 should have gone before Brass. I doubt Brass pretty durable, nice playoff numbers and consistent at 5.0 a year was the teams first choice to move.

I agree but I'll never disagree with a good trade that gets us younger at the same time. |

I just don't understand why they didn't trade Girardi for Erik Karlsson, that would solve everything |

I like the trade. Though, Brass was a good Ranger, this deal pretty much addressed the wants/needs this off-season...younger, faster, save cap space, bigger center. Can't complain much here.
Plus spending $2M and a 7th round pick for a 2nd round pick helps, too. |

I am hung up on this kid. I am not sure what I would offer him. You want that break-out season, but it just doesn't keep happening. Maybe finally learning to score on breakaways will finally get him to that 30-goal mark |

Even if he doesn't ever reach 30...4.5 million for someone who can get you 25 goals, around 50 plus points and deliver in the palyoffs isn't a bad deal in today's NHL. |

his career proves him worthy of a 4.5 million a year contract right now
the trick is to get him signed to that number before he breaks out and then commands 6 million plus a year |

Not that I don't think this might happen, but its funny how many times we say this with Kreider. |

Yup but that's why Brooks speculates a longer term deal will cost the Rangers 5.25M or more.
I'm warming up to that number more and more though |

Well the thing with Kreider is we aren't talking a breakout year in terms of going from 10 goals to 20+ like Miller, but more of 20+ to 30+. So even if he doesn't break out, he's still producing pretty damn well. |

I am sticking with my guess of 4 years @ 18 million total
4.5 million cap hit and allows him to hit the market again at age 29 |

4.5 would be my ceiling.
Gives the Rangers some meat on the bone if he stays a 20 g scorer. Also if he hits 30 its kind of a bargain. |

Could be his agent has some ridiculous number and won't budge.
They'll figure it out. |

Well they won't let him walk as much as I joke about it. So if it goes to arbitration the Rangers will just pay that amount. |

Ottawas GM says that Gortons asking price was significantly higher in April.
I wonder what asking price can be considered significantly higher than Zibanajed and a 2nd? |
