Fast on the 3rd line isn't ideal but I guess it's not the end of the world.

A young kid like Tambellini could surprise and earn a bottom 6 role too

The Rangers philosophy with their prospects has pretty much always been that you have to excel at the AHL level before making the big club. Now, obviously there are exceptions to that rule, but outside of incorporating Buchnevich, I don't see anybody else that really is ready to make that jump, if you consider what the Rangers have done historically. Maybe Hvrik, but he does seem like a guy that they won't hold a space for.

Don't get me wrong, I really like Fast as well. I just think he is a real good fourth liner that you can move up and down the lineup if need be.
- Pete V

Yeah I didn't take your comment as a slight against Fast. Fast is just guy that AV seems to trust especially with defensive responsibilities.

Stepan, MDZ, Duclair and Hayes all come to mind as players that made the jump immediately so it's not unheard of for the Rangers but they do indeed prefer to have the kids play at least half a season in the AHL (looking at Hagelin and McDonagh).

But I think the way the Penguins rounded out their team with young kids could influence how the Rangers choose to treat their youth. Maybe not though. There's certainly a lot of competition entering camp.

Kreider - Stepan - Fast
Zucc - Zibanejad - Miller
Nash - Hayes - Buchnevich
Hrivik - Jooris/Lindberg - Grabner

How about something like that? Really spread the scoring out over 3 quality lines?

Could flip Fast and Grabner too

- rangerdanger94

Well since Stepan is probably the teams best defensive forward, and Kreider learned how to play defense a bit last year, give a goal scorer like Buch a shot. I don't like Fast in the top 6.

I am actually starting to like the makeup of the forward group. I would like it a more, however, if we could keep Fast and Grabner on the fourth line, which I think would be pretty awesome.

We also have to consider that Buchnevich could struggle some, which I think makes bringing in another forward a good idea.

Yea that works.

I'm all for splitting up Stepan/Kreider, Zibanajed/Zucc and Hayes/Nash though to have 3 scoring lines.

It's why I wouldn't mind bringing in a Vrbata or Hudler. Prefer Hudler for the reason you listed earlier.

I would also consider flipping that second we just acquired for Yakupov, because I am never going to give up on that one.

At the draft, the rumors were that it wouldn't take much more than a second to land Yakupov. His star has fallen pretty far.

I worry that we would be creating a right dman problem, especially if we are concerned about Girardi.

I know you need those picks Tom, so you can complain about the Rangers not drafting someone in the 6th round that you wanted.
Jk.

5 maybe. I think the Rangers can mull an offer for 48 hours, if it gets that far.

He will sign right before arbitration for four years $18 million. Don't worry about it.

That was actually my prediction all along. 4 @ 18 million

Makes the most sense as he can then hit the UFA market again at age 29
