Haha what evidence do you have to suggest Zibanejad is marginally better defensively?

It's a good trade for both teams. As far the Z and the defense goes, Z is a staple in ottawas PK which will help us out a lot. We were god awful on the PK last year.

Brassard is a left handed pass first center which will work well with Ryan being right handed shoot first RWer.

Zibanajed is a shoot first right handed center who will fit in nicely with a playmaking winger like Zucc.

The Rangers forwards are ALL pass first players. The fact that Z is shoot first is awesome. And he's right handed. The ONLY other forward that is right handed on the Rangers is Stepan, so that's huge too.

Good deal for both teams I think. The 2nd was extra compensation for picking up Brassard's bonus I think.

I didnt say it was a bad trade...just asked a question about why he said what he said.

So Zibanejad was a staple on the PK, but again where was he good on the PK?

I just don't think Brassard is a big enough improvement to finally get Bobby Ryan to start producing to his pay grade. It's time for people to consider that maybe Bobby Ryan was overrated when he was a Duck and Anaheim got this one right. Seems like the kind of player that can pile on the goals when he's going against lesser competition on the second line, but is pretty average as a top line winger. Definitely not the type of guy you want to build your offense around.

Didn't mean to imply that you said that. I just happened to click the quote button on your post

Seems right. 4 30+ goal seasons is pretty big deal. He might be a 30 goal scorer with a good centerman. But he's certainly not a franchise player. I'd say he's a little like kessel or patrick sharp. A good guy as your 3rd or 4th offensive option. Cup teams have a guy like that.

To be honest there are only a few wingers that can be franchise caliber top line leaders for cup teams. I'd go with Kane, Ovechkin, and I think Taylor Hall fits that description.

I would by no means put Kessel in the Bobby Ryan/Patrick Sharp category... Kessel is a top wing in this league. Those other two? Not so much.

To your EDIT: I agree. Very tough for a winger to be the go to guy on a line. Offense is usually very center reliant.

I don't know if offense is center-oriented. I think the best players get slotted as centermen and that is why most lines have their leader at center.

Anyway seems like semantics to me on kessel. I don't think any of those guys are a number 1 on a good team. They are number 3 options and in sharps case maybe number 4. Kessel/Ryan can be the best forward on an average/bad team.
