Just messing with you. I've been slowly switching wine myself but there are times where beer is the only thing that will do. Like softball games, fishing etc

In Tanner's recent blog has Gardiner has an elite number 1.
Comparing him to Keith.

How did we miss this?

- Fakepartofme

THe same way we missed on Laine. By talking about only Matthews.

Yeah. Wine sits much better with me the next day (I don't get hangovers typically, but not having over 3L of fermented crap in my gut is always better!)... that said, a few of us headed to one of the local lakes here yesterday, and a cooler full of beer is always the go-to for that occurrence....

Yo, the HERO charts show that Gardiner > Rielly.

All the proof is need.

The fact that the chart shows gardiner is better than keith is the best proof I've seen yet that the chart is worthless

Been looking at some of those HERO charts. So far Gardiner is better defensively that Suter, Doughty, Keith, Weber, Hedman.

It's just a way of representing data for him over the years. Around 2012/13 there was a marked increase in the number of shots against him when at 5v5. This was also around the time that Suter stopped being his primary defensive partner. That said, his points totals show that he's still an offensive threat, particularly at 5v4. I don't think that there are many rational people however who think that Montreal are better off for this trade...

Morning, folks!

What's all this about sticking cobs of corn up your hoop to search for Pokemon?

Amateurs. I was doing that before I even knew what Pokemon was!

So we could basically trade him for any player in the league based on the value of defensemen these days - the possibilities are endless.

In all fairness he did have a much better season but he isn't a 1-2

In what way? It's data, pure and simple. It takes data points for a player and uses it to rank them relative to all other players in the same metric with a normalization for time. Now obviously each point is limited to just the particular thing that it measures, but it seems that folks forget that the data itself is completely inanimate - If you want to blame individual people for misusing them or being over-zealous with them that's one thing but that's on them.

I actually like gardiner last yea and think he could turn into a decent number 3 but to say he's one of the best defensive defenseman in the game is laughable.

so now all we need to do is convince bergevin that Gardiner is an EVEN BETTER fit than Weber on the basis of character

Yeah, arbitrary visualizations really are no substitute for regression analysis or machine learning. Where's all the hockey data scientists at?
